I’m sorry…was that not THE MOST underwhelming Apple iPhone Keynote Ever? What was the biggest news for the new iPhone’s?
There was nothing that stood out in the keynote. We got the usual, new chips, better design, better camera and a bunch of technical jargon that most people won’t care about but why do I think it was underwhelming?
Because there wasn’t anything that seemed to really push the iPhone into future. The iPhone X was FaceID and this amazing new technology called qi-charging, before that we had Portrait mode in the iPhone 7 plus camera, with the iPhone 6s, Apple showed us they could make phones that didn’t bend when you sat on them.
So here’s 15 things that I noticed that you may not have. Spoiler alert, only two of the 15 left me impressed, the other 13, well, I think I’m getting too old for this.
1.I’m sure he say’s that every year. I actually laughed out loud when Tim Cook said “Most Advanced iPhone Ever Created”. What else would he say? “We just made another product that’s going to make us a butt-load of money” or “Are we doing this again?” because personally, after watching these keynotes for the last almost decade, I’m a little bored. Or cynical. It’s the same thing over and over again.
2.The new iPhone’s are going to be made from stainless steel like the iPhone X is right now which means it’s going to a sink for scratches.
3.Phil did say that the new iPhone’s will be using the “Most durable glass ever in a smartphone which will be neat to test.
4.The iP68 announcement was surprising. I thought they were going to stick with iP67 so that’s going to offer enough protection for day to day accidental water protection.
5.Thank goodness Apple added better speakers on the iPhone. I was watching this part and I thought to myself…who actually watches movies on their devices without headphones?
6.Sweet. A new chip. I always think about this section as filler. 8 minutes of Phil telling us how much faster the new iPhone is going to be and how Awesome Apple’s engineers are.
7.Personally, I was really hoping for a big improvement with AR but out of the three developers, the Steve Nash App was probably the coolest one. The app basically does real time analysis of basketball athletes which is just so kickass.
The other game where people danced around the table like a bunch of jackasses was funny. Seriously, who plays those games? Seriously, I want to know from you guys, do you guys play those games.
8.The camera section is always a good watch because we got to watch Phil tell us how amazing the color in the photos look.
9.So much Bokeh. Bokeh! Bokeh! Bokeh! This was actually pretty cool, being able to change the f-stop in post-processing, I don’t know if it’s going to harald in a new era of photography but it’s pretty cool.
10.More useless information about the battery. Lasts 30 mins longer than the iPhone X. In airplane mode with the screen off?
11.Dual-sim fallacy? When Phil announced the e-sim, I thought “cool”. I know people complain about it a lot and now the Apple supports it. But it's one sim card and one e-sim so is it really dual sim?
12.Yay! Recycled parts! Kinda neat seeing Apple use recycled materials. Hopefully that components will last just as long.
13.The iPhone Xr is basically the long lost cousin of the iPhone 5C. Lots of different colors and from what I’ve seen, won’t work with Qi-charging because of the aluminum back.
14.The iPhone XR has a 6.1 inche screen which means it’s going to handle more like an iPhone 8 Plus than an 8. Which also means that the XR is going to Apple’s cheapest iPhone in a couple of years while NOT being the largest.
15.The iPhone Xs’s will use an OLED screen while the Xr will use an LCD screen that’s been given the name Liquid Retina. Having the word “liquid” in front of anything just makes it better doesn’t it.
So again, those were 15 things I noted during this underwhelming iPhone keynote. What do you guys think of the new iPhone?
