CSO: David Fray on Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2

Описание

French pianist David Fray's Symphony Center recital last spring was called “musical poetry” by the Chicago Tribune. He returns to perform Chopin's tenderly lyrical Second Piano Concerto. Christoph Eschenbach, music director of the National Symphony Orchestra, rounds out a richly romantic program with Carl Maria von Weber's noble overture to his opera Der Freischütz and two of Mendelssohn's most beloved masterpieces.

Filmed at the Abbey Road Studios / London, August 2010 Philharmonia Orchestra Jaap van Zweden - conductor David Fray - piano Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K. 503 6:46 I. Allegro maestoso 25:45 II. Andante 33:12 III. Allegretto David Fray was voted Instrumental Soloist of the Year at France’s Victoires de la Musique Classique awards in 2010. Chopin - Nocturne op.9 No.1

Chopin - Nocturne op.9 No.1

Nocturne in B-flat minor, Op. 9, No. 1 Played by Vadim Chaimovich (https://www.youtube.com/vadimchaimovich) FB-Vadim: https://www.facebook.com/vadimchaimovich https://open.spotify.com/album/3jB6OWOpn8l0gZShrLl5dh https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078WK2R18/ref=dm_ws_tlw_trk1 The Nocturnes, Op. 9 are a set of three nocturnes written by Frédéric Chopin between 1830 and 1832, published that year, and dedicated to Madame Camille Pleyel. The second nocturne of the work is regarded as Chopin's most famous piece. This nocturne has a rhythmic freedom that came to characterise Chopin's later work. The left hand has an unbroken sequence of eighth notes in simple arpeggios throughout the entire piece, while the right hand moves with freedom in patterns of seven, eleven, twenty, and twenty-two notes. The opening section moves into a contrasting middle section, which flows back to the opening material in a transitional passage where the melody floats above seventeen consecutive bars of D-flat major chords. The reprise of the first section grows out of this, followed by a Picardy third ending.

Bach: Concerto for 4 pianos BWV 1065 III. Allegro (D. Fray, J. Rouvier, E. Christien, A. Vigoureux)

Speaking of the Concerto for Four Keyboards, David Fray says: “It is vital to achieve the right balance and to create a single sound, not four separate sounds. As pupils of Jacques Rouvier, we were always encouraged to have a distinct personality, but here, while retaining our individuality, we must find a zone where we can all come together … Four sounds that make sense as one sound.” https://wnrcl.me/bachconcertos David Fray, Jacques Rouvier, Emmanuel Christien & Audrey Vigoureux, pianos String ensemble of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse __________ Warner Classics ► Website: http://www.warnerclassics.com Subscribe to our: ► YT- Channel: https://wnrcl.me/subscribeYT ► Newsletter https://wnrcl.me/subscribeNL Follow us on: ► Facebook: http://www.fb.com/WarnerClassicsErato ► Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/warner_classics ► Twitter: http://twitter.com/WarnerClassics ► YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/warnerclassics Listen to us on: ► Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/warnerclassics ► Apple Music: http://itunes.apple.com/curator/warner-classics/1153741571 ► Deezer https://www.deezer.com/profile/321050935 Warner Classics is the home of classical music, featuring iconic high audio quality recordings from the greatest classical legends, opera stars and orchestras of the last century. Glenn Gould and Leonard Bernstein: Bach's Keyboard Concerto No. 1 in D minor (BWV 1052)

Glenn Gould and Leonard Bernstein: Bach's Keyboard Concerto No. 1 in D minor (BWV 1052)

This clip is absolutely sensational: as education, composition and in performance. Glenn Gould was 28 years old here. For the impatient, Gould's performance begins at 5:08, but I strongly encourage you to watch Leonard Bernstein's fascinating introduction. This film originally aired in 1960 on CBS Television as part of its "Ford Presents" series. The entire film in high quality (of which this clip is a small part) was painstakingly hunted down by YouTuber erp65 and his friends. It can be found here, and I urge you, I really DO urge you, to see it in its entirety: https://youtu.be/9Nx09pigZRI I have sought erp65's permission to cross-post, as a courtesy, but I have not yet heard back. Meanwhile, my abject enthusiasm got the better of me. This film has to be promulgated far and wide. This was erp65's entire intention here, and we owe him and his friends enormous thanks. Bach: Concerto for 3 Pianos BWV 1063 III. Allegro (D. Fray, J. Rouvier, E. Christien)

“These concertos have an exceptional impact, energy and ‘bounce’ that can be hard to capture on the modern piano,” says Fray. “The challenge is to take all the fat out of the sound – especially when you have several pianos playing together – and to capture that dancing Italian spirit with the help of lively articulation and an understanding of the polyphony.” https://wnrcl.me/bachconcertos __________ Warner Classics ► Website: http://www.warnerclassics.com Subscribe to our: ► YT- Channel: https://wnrcl.me/subscribeYT ► Newsletter https://wnrcl.me/subscribeNL Follow us on: ► Facebook: http://www.fb.com/WarnerClassicsErato ► Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/warner_classics ► Twitter: http://twitter.com/WarnerClassics ► YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/warnerclassics Listen to us on: ► Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/warnerclassics ► Apple Music: http://itunes.apple.com/curator/warner-classics/1153741571 ► Deezer https://www.deezer.com/profile/321050935 Warner Classics is the home of classical music, featuring iconic high audio quality recordings from the greatest classical legends, opera stars and orchestras of the last century. J.S.Bach - French Suites

J.S.Bach - French Suites

Andras Schiff - Piano BWV 812 813 814 815 816 817 The French Suites, BWV 812--817, are six suites which Johann Sebastian Bach wrote for the clavier (harpsichord or clavichord) between the years of 1722 and 1725. The suites were later given the name 'French' (first recorded usage by Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg in 1762) as a means of contrast with the English Suites (whose title is likewise a later appellation). The name was popularised by Bach's biographer Johann Nikolaus Forkel, who wrote in his 1802 biography of Bach, "One usually calls them French Suites because they are written in the French manner." This claim, however, is inaccurate: like Bach's other suites, they follow a largely Italian convention. There is no surviving definitive manuscript of these suites, and ornamentation varies both in type and in degree across manuscripts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Suites_(Bach)

Swing, Sing & Think: David Fray – Bach’s Keyboard Concertos (HD 1080p)

Swing, Sing & Think: David Fray – Bach’s Keyboard Concertos (HD 1080p)

The film follows the talented David Fray in his attempt to approach Bach's beautiful works in a highly personal way. Concerts included in this film: David Fray Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Johann Sebastian Bach: Keyboard concerto in A major David Fray Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Johann Sebastian Bach: Keyboard concertos in F minor and in G minor David Fray’s sparkling talent is such that he is one of the few pianists of the new generation to have signed an exclusive recording contract recently with one of the current majors, Virgin Classics. In January 2008 he recorded a programme entirely devoted to Bach, comprising four concertos for keyboard and orchestra. For the public these concertos are among the most popular and stimulating of Bach’s works. For David Fray one of the major problems facing the contemporary performer of these works is that they have been “visited” by Glenn Gould. In other words, the objective is to find a way of playing Bach after Gould. By copying him? By standing resolutely apart? The film follows David Fray in his attempt to approach these beautiful works in a highly personal way. In the simplest manner, three situations provide the film‘s setting: David Fray at home working at the score on the piano, explaining the many options open to him, with many examples drawn from the three concertos selected. We then see David Fray rehearsing and recording with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, which he conducts from the piano. The film alternates rehearsal and recording sessions of the three concertos, movement by movement, intercut with short interviews. The programme focuses on the concerto in A and on the concertos in F minor and G minor.
