Elizabeth Holmes was a high flyer - until hubris led to wild claims to investors and questionable answers led to investigations. The SEC would launch a BUG investigation in 2016 and charge her with a “massive fraud” for making false claims while raising $700M fro investors. She would ultimately get a 10-year ban from being on the board of ANY public company. A Department of Justice investigation is still ongoing... WSJ journalist John Carreyrou shares year-long Theranos investigation & breaks latest, stunning news

Wall Street Journal's John Carreyrou started reporting on Theranos nearly a year ago, since uncovering a multitude of troubling facts about the fast-rising startup amid a firestorm of controversy. In October 2015, John informed the public about the co's struggles with its blood-testing tech. This week, it's the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) findings that Theranos lab poses an immediate risk to patient health. And today, in an exclusive interview, John breaks the news that Walgreens is suspending use of a CA Theranos lab and closing its Wellness Center, effective immediately. Jason and John dive into the details of the Theranos story, starting from John's initial tip about something amiss through today's stunning developments. We learn exactly why CMS considers Theranos to be a public health threat; how Chief Scientific Officer Ian Gibbons, before he took his own life, told his wife that nothing at Theranos was working; John being repeatedly ignored on requests to interview Founder Elizabeth Holmes; insights on his reporting and the WSJ vetting process; the dangers of bringing a healthcare product too soon to market; when, if ever, this story will end -- and much more. Triangulation 350: John Carreyrou, Bad Blood

Triangulation 350: John Carreyrou, Bad Blood

John Carreyrou is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist for The Wall Street Journal and the author of Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. He sits down with Megan Morrone on this week's Triangulation and talks about the rise and fall of Theranos and its founder Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes was the darling of the tech world, at 19 she dropped out of Stanford, founded Theranos, and wooed investors to the tune of $700 Million dollars with the promise of revolutionizing the blood testing industry. She persuaded high-level officials, like George Schultz and Henry Kissinger, to join her board of directors, as she and her team worked to create what she called the "iPod of health care". Carreyrou had his doubts about Holmes and the company and began investigating. The level of deception and fraud he ultimately uncovered was staggering. The Fall of Elizabeth Holmes

The Fall of Elizabeth Holmes

Elizabeth Holmes was widely praised as the world's youngest female self made billionaire. But the respect this gained her could only last so long. Her blood testing company, Theranos, was built on lies. It's revolutionary technology was eventually revealed to be fundamentally flawed. It didn't do what she claimed it did. This revelation destroyed the reputation of Theranos and caused it's own investors and business partners to take legal action against it. Elizabeth Holmes was charged with fraud and her personal net worth fell to nothing. It's the most spectacular demise of a company since Enron. This is how it unfolded.

Bad Blood Author Carreyrou On Elizabeth Holmes And Theranos

Jim Cramer sits down with the man who broke the story about Theranos, Bad Blood author John Carreyrou. Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes really believed that she was doing something positive for the world, author John Carreyrou told CNBC's Jim Cramer. "She really did believe that creating this machine that would be able to run every test known to man off of just a pinprick of blood, that that would really be good for society and that it would do good," Carreyrou told the Mad Money host. "So I think she has this condition called noble cause corruption, which is that she ultimately believed that what she was going to achieve once she got there was gonna be a good thing for humanity. Therefore, every lie and every corner she cut along the way was justified." Carreyrou's book "Bad Blood" tackles the rise and fall of Theranos and Holmes, its founder. The Silicon Valley darling, at one time valued at $9 billion, claimed that it only needed a microscopic amount of blood for its automated blood tests. Through his reporting in the Wall Street Journal, Carreyrou found that the technology did not work as promised, and that the biotech company misled customers about the methodology and accuracy of its tests. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered.
