Beethoven - Overture to

Beethoven - Overture to "Egmont" op. 84 (Kurt Masur, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig)

From the Church of St. Nicolai, Leipzig, Germany (Starts at 1:30) 20 Years Peaceful Revolution - Leipzig commemorates the 9th of October 1989 Gewandhausorchester Leipzig Conductor: Kurt Masur Ludwig van Beethoven - “Egmont” overture, Op. 84 Watch the full concert here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBjoEdEVMABLHsPnmDHO3SGZ6YFNG5rqO On 9 October 1989, 70,000 people staged a non-violent demonstration calling for more freedom and democracy in the GDR. Thanks to the claim “Peaceful Revolution”, initiated by Kurt Masur as one of six prominent citizens of Leipzig, everything proceeded peacefully. That evening, the Gewandhausorchester played under his baton Brahms’ Second Symphony at the St. Nicolas Church. The following regular "Monday Demonstrations", which came to be described as the “Peaceful Revolution”, became a major milestone on the way to open the Berlin Wall one month later on November the 9th in 1989 and paving the foundations for the reunification of the two German states. Exactly 20 years later, the Gewandhausorchester and Kurt Masur commemorate the beginning of the German reunification by presenting the same symphony at the same location.

Original 1909 Blüthner Grand Piano, Presentation by Ute Neumerkel, Doku: alter Blüthner-Flügel

Original 1909 Blüthner Grand Piano, Presentation by Ute Neumerkel, Doku: alter Blüthner-Flügel

Alter Blüthner-Flügel von 1909, komplett sehr gut original erhalten! DEUTSCH/ ENGLISH Mendelssohn Lied ohne Worte C-Dur op.102, 6 7:23 & Tschaikowsky op.39 Der Leierkastenmann Nr.23 1:58 & In der Kirche Nr.24 3:48 ganz gespielt. [ENGLISH below] Anschauliche Vorführung der Besonderheiten: Blüthner-Patent-Mechanik, Aliquot-Saiten, Klang, Stimmung auf 435 Hz, prachtvolle Verzierungen. Klavier & Filmproduktion: Ute Neumerkel. It is a pleasure for me to present you such a rare historical instrument, a completely original 1909 Blüthner grand piano! I explain all the specialities, the Blüthner Patent Mechanics, Aliquot strings and the special sound. In between I play complete versions of Tchaikovsky op. 39 No 23 „Der Leierkastenmann“ (The Organ-Grinder) and No 24 „In der Kirche“ (At Church), and Felix Mendelssohn’s Lied ohne Worte in C Major op. 102 No. 6. I am very interested in the original sound of old pianos. With restored old pianos you never know how far you are from the original sound and touch. For sure it was different, mostly very different, and as I witnessed many times, far more beautiful than before the restoration... So I am thankful for this extremely rare occasion to present you such an old Blüthner grand with even the original hammerfelts, which only have been slightly ground. Of course, even this original Blüthner grand does not sound today like it did a hundred years ago. All the material aged, esp. the soundboard probably does no longer have its original tension, which is very important for the richness and the overtone spectrum of the sound. The voicing of the hammer felts is also important. I have the impression that the felts could have been better prepared. But maybe their elasticity is not sufficient for a voicing that produces a rich and even sound. Nevertheless we cannot get nearer to an old Blüthner grand! Unfortunately I could not record the sound with my professional equipment , and also not from a good position, as there were standing other grand pianos next to the Blüthner. I recorded with the high quality camera microphone Rode SVM PRO Stereo Videomic Pro. As usually I, Ute Neumerkel, did all by myself: concept, presentation, piano playing, camera, editing. As an independant artist I appreciate any like, comment or other promotion. * More documentaries about old pianos, Listzt’s 1862 Bechstein, restoration and regulation: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmwlM7tzHkP0ExU4yhCwH99mKyaqZJh59 * More recordings of my old Bechstein grand piano: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmwlM7tzHkP1IoQsW0gidWFEQ0AqJgnbl * More about me as musician and film artist, also in English: http://uteneumerkel.de

Mendelssohns - Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor (op. 25) , Yuja Wang, Kurt Masur (Full)

Kurt Masur (direction) Yuja Wang (piano) Verbier Festival Orchestra Mendelssohn piano concerto opus 25 Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor (op. 25) was written in 1830--1, around the same time as his fourth symphony ("Italian"), and premiered in Munich in October 1831. He had already written a piano concerto in A minor with string accompaniment (1822) and two concertos with two pianos (1823--4). The three connected movements — Molto allegro con fuoco in G minor Andante in E major Presto—Molto allegro e vivace in G major use several relatively new formal techniques in their brief span — for example, the piano enters very soon after the opening of the first movement, with little of an orchestral tutti to contrast with.[1] The concerto quickly obtained popularity, and contains many sections of improvisation, one of Mendelssohn's specialities.

Mendelssohn - Ave maria (op. 23 no. 2)

Mendelssohn - Ave maria (op. 23 no. 2)

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 - 1847): AVE MARIA for 8-part chorus 00:11 : Ave Maria (Andante) 02:48 : Sancta Maria (Con moto) 04:50 : Ave Maria (Andante) Mendelssohn composed this beautiful 8-part motet in 1830. In a letter of 30 november he wrote: "In the Ave Maria, which is a greeting to Mary, it is a tenor who constantly sings before the chorus, and all alone from beginning to end." The final version turned out differently: The tenor and the chorus alternate in the two outer sections, while the middle 'con moto' section, imploring the Virgin to pray for us sinners, is an expansive, densely textured eight-part polyphonic movement. Originally written a cappella, the Ave Maria was later endowed with an accompaniment for organ or instrumental ensemble (clarinets, bassoons, cellos and basses). Ave Maria, gratia plena. Dominus tecum, Benedicta tu in mulieribus! Sancta Maria, mater Dei, Ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostri. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee, Blessed art thou among women! Hail Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners Now and in the hour of our death.
