Wagner Concert in Leipzig 1988 DDR 2 - Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (overture)

Описание

Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Conducted by Kurt Masur
1988 Fernsehen der DDR

The writer and composer Richard Wagner (1813 - 1883) was born in the city of Leipzig in Saxony. The city of his birth paid tribute to one of its most famous sons in 1988, then part of the German Democratic Republic, with an all Wagner concert from the New Gewandhaus concert hall, rebuilt by the GDR government and opened in in 1981. Kurt Masur conducts, with soprano Karan Armstrong and bass-baritone Theo Adam singing excerpts from Tristan und Isolde and Meistersinger, with equally stunning contributions from the Leipzig Radio Choir.

Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 6 - Riccardo Chailly, Gewandhaus Orchestra

Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 6 - Riccardo Chailly, Gewandhaus Orchestra

Accentus Music's new release on DVD/Blu-ray in November 2013: "The audience knows that the performance of a Mahler symphony is not only a musical experience, but is also emotionally effective" (R. Chailly). This counts especially for Mahler's enigmatic sixth symphony, an emotionally stirring challenge for both performers and listeners, whilst also being one of the most impressive works in musical history. Chailly's interpretation with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra is "intensely great" (Die Presse). "Chailly uncompromisingly considers this sixth symphony through the lens of modernity; looking forward, not retrospectively staying in 'late romantic'. In this celebrated orchestra, all sections splendidly come together and fulfil an 'open' sound, conserving whilst respecting its original beauty." (Salzburger Nachrichten) Including Bonusfilm: "My Sixth will propound riddles"- A panel discussion with Riccardo Chailly and Reinhold Kubik

Dress rehearsal footage of the Great Conductor Herbert von Karajan in Japan 1973, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The first part has him putting the final touches to the Tristan und Isolde Prelude to Act 1 and Liebestod. The second part is very interesting, with even a very noticeable mistake at the end of the Tannhauser Overture. :)

Glenn Gould plays Die Meistersinger (excerpt)

Glenn Gould plays Die Meistersinger (excerpt)

Prelude from 1st act of Die Meistersinger. Composed by Richard Wagner. Piano transcription by Glenn Gould Recorded in January 1974 Now with Closed Captions! Note: If you want to translate the captions for your local language using the automatic translation, please select "English: Without German Accent" at the "Translate from" field. Why? Because Glenn Gould speaks with German accent on this video, and change some words. For example: instead of "them", he speaks "zem". If you chose the caption track "English: Original" to translate, the automatic translator will get confused and probably many errors will appear.
