What on Earth Happened to the Old Europeans? Pre-Indo-European History of Europe

What on Earth Happened to the Old Europeans? Pre-Indo-European History of Europe

What happened to the Old European? Meaning the original people groups of Europe that inhabited the landmass before the arrival of the Indo-Europeans, a group which would later evolve into the vast majority of European nations we see today, from the Russians, Italians, Irish, Norwegians and Greeks. Although precious little is known, there are clues left behind in the archaeology, genetics, linguistics and historical texts that have been passed down through the generations, which gives us a somewhat fuzzy picture of pre-historic Europe. Be sure to let me know your thoughts on the pre-Indo-European Europeans and let me know which culture you think is the most interesting. Thanks for watching! Why Didn't Germans Just Go Around the Berlin Wall?

This animated history video explains for Americans why Germans didn’t just go around the Berlin Wall. It may sound silly, but many Americans don’t know the full history of the Berlin Wall, why it was erected, or why it was important to German History. The Rise and Fall of Austria or the Habsburg Empire / Österreich

The Rise and Fall of Austria or the Habsburg Empire / Österreich

Austria was ruled by the Habsburg dynasty from 1278/1282 to 1918. Therefore, historical Austria is also known as the Habsburg Empire or the Habsburg Monarchy. The Habsburgs made Austria a great power in 1477, when they inherited much of what is now the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Soon afterwards they inherited many more lands by their marriage policies. During the 16th century, the Habsburgs ruled over large parts of Europe. Charles V reigned over perhaps a quarter of the European population (not to speak of his enormous American colonial empire). The centuries afterwards Austria remained a great power until World War I, when the nationalistic thoughts in Europe finally divided the old empire into many small states. It's important to put in mind that Austria has always been a "part" of Germany until the 19th century. Indeed, the German Empire didn't exist until 1871, but the Germans (Austrians included) more or less realized they shared a similar language and culture, and the medieval Holy Roman Empire actually was for the most part a German state until it fell apart in the fatal 13th century. Since 1452, the Habsburgs were (with one short exception) the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, which was by now virtually a very loose confederation of states. However, the position of the Holy Roman Emperor gave the Habsburgs privileges and some sort of loyalty from the German princes, although some monarchs—most notably the Prussian kings—openly contested Habsburg primacy. The Austrians were finally abandoned outside the German Empire in 1871. Music: Johann Strauss II - An der schönen blauen Donau (English title: The Blue Danube), composed in 1866.

The History of Iberia: Every Year

The History of Iberia: Every Year

From around 700 BCE, Celtic tribes began to migrate to Iberia. They came into contact with the Romans, who ruled the entire peninsula for over four centuries until the late 300s CE. They were replaced with various Germanic kingdoms, who were in turn replaced by the Islamic Caliphate. What followed was a gradual reconquest of the area, which had been completed by 1492. After a strengthening of the union of Castile and Aragon in 1516, Iberia took a form roughly similar to today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=4740833 Follow me on DeviantArt: http://olliebye.deviantart.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Map: http://new.demis.nl/products/web-map-server/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to: Drex for researching TeeMee for helping speed up the animation process with "Number Animationer" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: Llibre Vermell - Stella Splendens

Timeline of National Flags: Europe (1444-2015)

More than half a millennia of Europe's history in countries and flags, starting at 1444 for a particular reason. See the rise and fall of empires old and new, along with a little bit of the surrounding continents. NOTES: Disputed territories such as Kosovo, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh (now known as Artsakh), Crimea, are shown without a line separating them. De facto control is shown with de jure borders (e.g. Bulgaria is shown before its de jure independence, Islamic State, etc.) Russia is represented with its coat of arms on a red background until 1668. Ireland is represented using its earldom flag, though in reality it was broken up into many smaller states. Without enough flag information and pixels, the Holy Roman Empire is shown as a single state, though some states in the HRE are shown. All states are shown after 1806. "Semi-independent" Persian/Azerbaijani states are shown because why not. Holy Roman Empire: Blue outline Confederation of the Rhine: Green outline German Confederation: Red outline 9 months... Music and information credits at the end of the video. Stop asking in the comments and read! I applaud you if you are reading this :) Spelled "precarious" incorrectly. :/ Deutsch--Zeitplan der Nationalflaggen: Europa Español--Cronología de banderas nacionales: Europa Français--Chronologie des drapeaux nationaux: Europe Nederlands--Tijdlijn van nationale vlaggen: Europa Português--Cronologia de bandeiras nacionais: Europa Русский--Хронология государственных флагов: Европа Known errors: The flag of Finland should have a lighter hue on the frames 1918-1919. A slight border error on the Second Partition of Poland. The flag of Spain should not have the crown in 1873. Estonia and Latvia should have slightly more territory on its eastern border during the Interwar Period. Portugal should own Olivenza from the beginning until the frame 1800 when it is ceded to Spain.

The Reconquista: Every Year

The Reconquista: Every Year

In the early Eighth Century, the Umayyad Caliphate began an invasion of Christian Iberia. Although losing control half a century later, their legacy would spark a conflict to last almost 800 years, to decide the peninsula's future as either an Islamic or Christian state. With the destruction of the last Islamic Kingdom in Iberia, Granada, the Reconquista is complete. Three of the remaining Christian kingdoms, Castile, Navarre, and Aragon would unite shortly after to form Spain, and ultimately the Spanish Empire. ---------------------------------------------- Music: John Dreamer - Becoming a Legend
