10 Things Germans Do Better Than Americans

10 Things Germans Do Better Than Americans

Here are 10 things Germans do better than Americans. Germany and the US are both pretty cool countries, but that doesn’t mean they’re the same across the board. Here are 10 things Germans do better than Americans. Number 10. Engineering. Much of it comes down to training. Germany’s vocational system continues to thrive and offers learning opportunities that combine practical application and theory. Among the most sought after programs is a 3-year apprenticeship with the multi-industry innovator Siemens. Number 9. Beer Gardens. Makeshift sidewalk cafes are plentiful in the US, but actual expansive, dedicated areas where people can sit in large groups and in some cases even bring their own food are quite rare. In Germany, on the other hand, they’re a regular thing. Number 8. Soccer. As you may know, the 2014 World Cup title went to the German team. It’s expected that their winning streak will continue as the current team has been playing together at various levels for about 10 years, and is now well prepared for world domination. Number 7. College Fees. The typical college graduate in Germany leaves school with no educational debt. As of October 2014, every public higher learning institution in the country is tuition-free, even for students from abroad. Number 6. Trains. Sure, Amtrack will get you from one US locale to another, but it’s going to take a while. Thanks to high-speed rail, Germans can travel from city to city in a fraction of the time. The typical train moves at around 180 miles per hour, but express services with fewer stops are available should the regular pace not be quite quick enough. Number 5. Sundays. It’s a serious day of rest for just about everybody, including people who work in retail. By law, stores in most areas remain closed all day long. There are a few exceptions, but those shopping places are primarily in airports and train stations. Number 4. Paid Vacation. Employers in Germany are required to not only give workers a minimum of 24 days off a year, they have to pay them for the time away. There are no such mandates in the US, and 25% of the American workforce doesn’t even get one. Number 3. Healthcare. In addition to healthcare coverage in Europe being generally more comprehensive, the prices of procedures are often significantly lower. For example, in 2007 numbers, a hip replacement performed in Germany cost roughly half of what it did in the US. Number 2. Castles. One of the greatest things about countries that were architecturally active during medieval times are the amazing castles we see today. Often perched high on mountaintops, their presence lends a fairy-tale feel to the countryside. Number 1. Driving. Considering many stretches of the Autobahn have no speed limit and analysis shows that fast driving results in more accidents, one would expect Germans to be involved way more fatal crashes than Americans. Yet, they’re not. In 2012 Germany had less than half the number the US did. What’s your favorite thing about Germany?

The video lists the top 10 items, and we invite the community to embrace the drama and provide feedback. This fun exercise should help car companies improve or delete these features so we can have better products long term. Some of the content is satire, comedic however much of the discussion is about the serious state of modern problems in cars. A quiet addition to The Fine Print Series. Outro Music: Alan Fowler Music

10 Things Americans Do That Confuse All Other Countries

10 Things Americans Do That Confuse All Other Countries

How to avoid some awkward situations abroad? The US is home to some customs that are very confusing to foreigners. Do you know which habits you should leave in the US before heading out on your travels? Check out this list of things Americans do that confuse the rest of the world. Timestamps: No metric system 1:04 Customizing restaurant orders 2:30 Vacation time 3:15 Can I get a to-go box, please? 4:42 Tipping 5:53 Alcohol laws 6:35 Variety of goods 7:13 Thumbs up 8:15 Being extremely patriotic 9:06 Sales tax 9:59 #americanfood #americanrules #newyork Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music Summary: - The rest of the world is familiar with meters for measurements, kilograms for weight, liters for volume, and Celsius for temperature. But not the US! Only 3 countries in the world still use the imperial system of measurements: Myanmar, Liberia, and the US. - In America, it’s customary to request substitutions, additions, or changes to a menu order. But some foreign cultures that take great pride in their cuisine might consider it impolite if an American wanted to make substitutions, order a different sauce, or ask for an item to be left out of a dish. - Americans have very little time off compared to the rest of the world. 30% of American workers have 5 to 9 days off annually, 38% have 10 to 14 days, and 16% have 15 to 19 days. 8% have less than 5 days, and a lucky 2% have over 24 days. This means that the vast majority of Americans only have 10 to 14 days of vacation. Since there’s no law in the US to say that vacation time is mandatory, one out of every 4 Americans doesn’t get a single day off work. - A common American custom is to ask for a to-go box for their leftovers. However, if you do this in a foreign country, it might be frowned upon. - In America, given that waiters earn a small wage, it is customary to leave a 15%–20% tip. In Europe and most Asian countries, the service charge for restaurant dining is already included in the bill. Tipping in countries like China and Japan is practically nonexistent. - Most countries in the world have a legal drinking age of 18 or 19 years old. The US, along with countries like Sri Lanka, Samoa, and Kuwait, has a legal drinking age of 21. - Foreigners are amazed by the variety of goods sold in American supermarkets and pharmacies. Foreign supermarkets are mostly designed to offer food and a few home necessities. American superstores like Walmart offer a huge selection of food, furniture, car items, home improvement tools, and clothing. - Americans might think that giving someone the thumbs up is a universally positive sign, meaning “Well done!” or “Everything’s good!” But don’t use this gesture in Australia, Greece, or the Middle East as it's a rude way of telling someone to get lost. You might think that pointing at something is OK, but not in China! That gesture is considered to be very rude. - A lot of foreign countries reserve the use of their national flag for official government buildings. But in the US, you see the flag everywhere. - An aspect that confuses most foreigners visiting the United States is sales tax. They might be confused when they take an item to the register only to find out that it costs more than advertised. In Europe, sales tax is already added to the price displayed on the price tag; in the US, it gets added at the register. Driving the Autobahn - Great Drives Episode 2

Driving the Autobahn - Great Drives Episode 2

Driving the Autobahn from Munich Germany to Austria in a 2014 BMW M6. Its hard to describe how much fun this was, a bucket list item for anyone who hasn't experienced it. It was a terrific driving experience being able to stay between 250-300kph (150 - 186 mph) safely for extended periods of time through sweeping turns and long straights down into the alps through the German countryside. Matt and Tom were in a BMW 328 camera car who decided to shortcut to the destination on local roads instead of trying to keep up. Inevitably the race was on. AMERICA, Why are some COUNTRIES RICH and others POOR? - VisualPolitik EN

Why are some countries rich and others poor? It sounds like an easy question but... nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the origin of wealth is one of the key issues, if not the most important issue, in political debates. Are there poor countries because there are rich countries? Do the richest countries have any special geographical characteristics that determine their success? Are natural resources the source of their wealth? Are their inhabitants smarter? In this video we’ll try to answer these questions, and we’ll do so by taking a look at the history of the American continent. Autobahn driving in Germany-also an educational video for Australian and New Zealand drivers part 1

I've driven in over 40 countries around the world, and I've had many different driving careers since I was young. The driving standards in both Australia and New Zealand are truly shocking, and are, without a doubt, the worst driving standards I've ever seen out of any developed country.

How To - Drive on German Roads

How To - Drive on German Roads

On the latest edition of Ask The Eagle we take a look at some basics of driving on German Roads. Some major points to keep in mind are the Autobahn may have no speed limits in various parts of the country but the recommended limit is 130 km/h The right of way can be tricky but if you remember that unless you're on a priority road anyone to your right has the right of way. Also there are some spots that have signs that will tell you who goes first through a road and who doesn't. It's easy to know who goes first when you think about RED is in the WRONG. Traffic circles may sound scary but they aren't bad, if you see a sign with arrows going in a circle the cars inside have the right of way. But if not then you do, and they have to yield. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below!

American Police Cars VS German Police Cars

American Police Cars VS German Police Cars

Encouraged by the feedback in the earlier uploaded video "American Ambulances VS German Ambulance" I continue with this video, which for sure will again hit someone's soft spot - isn't it always like "the stuff here is always better, by any given aspect, than what you have over there"?! In this video I compare various police cars from the United States of America and the Federal Republic of Germany: Crown Victoria, Chevrolet Tahoe, Dodge Charger, just some few famous names among American Police Cars. The German counterparts are Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 series and Audi A6. However, on both sides you find also less popular and ... to be honest, less representative ones when it comes down to "who has the most badass cars". This video doesn't represent show cars, but the reality! I guess I manged to show both nice as well as not so nice units on both sides. Representing the USA I chose various units, ranging from plain normal patrol cars to special operations and rescue units from the following police departments: - NYPD / New York City Police Department - NYPD Traffic / New York City Police Department Traffic Enforcement - NYC DHS Police / New York City Department of Homeless Services Police - MTA Police / Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police - PAPD / Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department - APD / Amtrak Police Department - NYCD / New York City Department of Correction - NYSP / NY State Trooper / New York State Police - FBI / Federal Bureau of Investigation - FPS Police / Federal Protective Service Police - USMS / United States Marshals Service - USSS / United States Secret Service - USAR MP / Military Police Unfortunately I couldn't get videos of all police units and services I saw during my stay in the USA. I shot some photos of e.g. Postal Police and Hospital Police HHCPD as well. Representing Germany I chose a similar range of police units from the following services, departments and agencies: - Bavarian State Police - Bavarian State Riot Police - Bavarian State Police, Highway Patrol - Bavarian State SWAT Team - The Police Chief of Berlin / Berlin City-State Police - Hamburg City-State Police - Hamburg City-State Riot Police - Schleswig-Holstein State Riot Police - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Police - Hesse State Police - Hesse State Riot Police - Frankfurt City Police - Saxony State Police - Lower Saxony State Police - Baden-Wuerttemberg State Police - Thuringia State Riot Police - North Rhine-Westphalia State Riot Police - Hamburg City-State Police - Hamburg City-State Riot Police - Federal Police - Federal Customs SWAT Team / Customs Observation Team - Military Police German Armed Forces Before anyone tries to attact me as if I'd create a biased video: I tried to make both segments equally long and I also tried to cover an as wide range of vehicles as it's possible. Please accept that I have a rather limited range of police services I can cover for the American part: I don't steal videos from other users, I only use my own videos!
