25 SNEAKY Lies You Were Told About Space

You won’t believe the lies you were told about space. Some are small lies that have crept in through Hollywood and other entertainment mediums. But others are Big lies that have been shared via misinformation or even changed information. Check out these 25 sneaky lies you were told about space. To be clear, most if not all of these lies are not intentional. Meaning, someone somewhere is not out to purposely deceive you. Rather, these space lies are due to misconceptions and entertaining exaggerations. However, the truth is sometimes as entertaining as the lie (so why live in the lie?). Check out these sneaky space lies (and our photo credits and sources) and let us know in the comments below if you were fooled by any of these lies. http://list25.com/25-sneaky-lies-you-were-told-about-space/ SUBSCRIBE - http://bit.ly/2uwq6BJ Follow us on: List25 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/list25 List25 Instagram: https://instagram.com/list25/ List25 Twitter - https://twitter.com/list25 List25 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/list25/ See more lists on our website: http://list25.com The sun is yellow right? The First Photos Taken of Every Planet in Our Solar System + Pluto (4K UHD)

The First Photos Taken of Every Planet in Our Solar System + Pluto (4K UHD)

For thousands of years, human beings have noticed certain points of light in the night's sky that seemed to move differently. Ancient Greek astronomers named these points "Asters Planetai" which means "Wandering stars". The term described many celestial objects, including Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn all of which can be seen at certain times of the year with the unaided eye from Earth. With the invention of the telescope back in the 1600s, these planets could be viewed like never before, and eventually, with years of continued observation, we discovered Uranus, Neptune and the dwarf planet Pluto. Then back in 1957 the space age started, with the successful launch of Sputnik 1 and since then probes have been sent all over the solar system on a mission to study these neighbouring celestial objects, sending data millions of miles back to Earth, Including some photographs. Edit - unfortunately there is a mistake during the Mercury facts. The day side is a lot hotter! Reaching temperatures of up to 427 degrees Celsius! For some reason, I was thinking of the average surface temperature of Mercury and still got it wrong. Sorry! Want to help support my channel and also get added benefits? Alien Planets Discovery Documentary - How did We Come Upon this Exoplanets?

Alien Planets Discovery Documentary - How did We Come Upon this Exoplanets?

Since the launch of NASA’s Kepler space telescope in 2009, scientists have uncovered thousands of distant exoplanets in the deep depths of space. Scientists in California and Australia are now hoping to expand upon Kepler’s work with 121 planets potentially hosting life-supporting moons. The key to finding a habitable exoplanet or moon is to find the stellar bodies within the so-called Goldilocks zone. These are the ideal hotspots within a solar system where a planet’s atmospherics are neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water to exist.

How Big Is The Biggest Galaxy In The Universe?

How Big Is The Biggest Galaxy In The Universe?

Within the observable universe there are more than 100 billion galaxies that come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and ages. But which one is the BIGGEST? **REMEMBER TO SUBSCRIBE FOR MUCH MORE TO COME** Subscribe - https://www.youtube.com/c/V101Science Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/V101Science Twitter - https://twitter.com/V101Science Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/v101__science/ Within the observable universe there are more than 100 billion galaxies that come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and ages, from the most common spiral galaxies like the Milky Way, to the ancient elliptical galaxies that are much older and larger. Our cosmic home, the Milky Way galaxy is estimated to contain between 100 and 400 billion stars and spans a huge area of over 100,000 light years across. But compared to other galaxies that have been discovered so far it certainly is not the biggest. Our neighbouring galaxy, "Andromeda", is significantly larger, spanning a massive 220,000 light years in diameter. The nicknamed "comet galaxy" is bigger yet, spanning a gigantic 600,00 light years and the largest of the spiral galaxies, known as "UGC 2885", reaches an enormous 832,000 light years across. But there are bigger, much bigger in fact and these are the super-giant elliptical types. For example, NGC 4889 which can be found in the northern coma cluster, reaches a colossal 1.3 million light years across. But the largest Galaxy discovered so far is known as IC 1101, this monster elliptical galaxy is estimated to be a mind blowing 6 million light years across and not only that, it may contain at its centre, the largest black hole in the universe. It is located around 1 billion light-years away and has the mass of about 100 trillion stars. If our galaxy were to be replaced with IC 1101, it would swallow up both Magellanic clouds, the Andromeda galaxy, the Triangulum galaxy, and almost all the space in between. IC 1101's staggering size is a result of billions of years of colliding and merging with other galaxies. But unfortunately this super giant is believed to be dying, as it doesn't seem to be producing many new stars. It is yellow in colour which indicates very little new stars are forming due to a lack of gas and dust, unlike blue galaxies that are active and alive for example. IC1101 will slowly fade away in the darkness of space. But this Titan currently still sits at the top of the list as the largest known galaxy in the universe and likely will do either until it fades away or the Hubble space telescope finds an even larger galaxy. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. It could be possible that one day, billions of years from now, the Earth will stand still. But chances are good that other events that will occur before that, such as the sun swallowing up the planet. With that being said, there isn’t a chance that the Earth will suddenly stop spinning anytime soon. But let’s just assume for a moment that the Earth did suddenly stop rotating, and take a look at what would happen to us, and the planet. Our planet spins at its equator 1000 miles per hour as it orbits the sun. But, as you get closer to the poles, the rotation is slower. Without this rotation, life as we know it wouldn’t be possible. It is said that billions of years ago, our planet used to spin much faster than it does now. In the beginning of our young solar system, an unknown planet or large celestial body collided with the Earth, and in that collision, the Earths alignment and rotation were changed, and the moon was formed. Since then the Earth’s rotation has been slowing down. It is said that the moon used to also spin faster than it does now before it became tidally locked with the Earth. Tidal locking is the name given to the situation when a moon or planetary object’s orbital period matches its rotational period. Coincidentally, it is the same fate that affects every single large moon orbiting a planet. A great example of this is our own Moon. In our early Solar System, both the Earth and the Moon rotated independently of each other. But the Earth’s gravity grabbed onto the tidal bulges and slowed down the rotation of the Moon. To compensate for the loss of momentum in the system, the Moon drifted away from the Earth to its current position, about 230,000 miles away.

It was one of two rovers of NASA's ongoing Mars Exploration Rover Mission. It landed successfully on Mars at 04:35 Ground UTC on January 4, 2004, three weeks before its twin, Opportunity (MER-B), landed on the other side of the planet. Its name was chosen through a NASA-sponsored student essay competition. The rover became stuck in late 2009, and its last communication with Earth was sent on March 22, 2010. The rover completed its planned 90-sol mission. Aided by cleaning events that resulted in higher power from its solar panels, Spirit went on to function effectively over twenty times longer than NASA planners expected following mission completion. Spirit also logged 7.73 km (4.8 mi) of driving instead of the planned 600 m (0.4 mi), allowing more extensive geological analysis of Martian rocks and planetary surface features. Initial scientific results from the first phase of the mission (the 90-sol prime mission) were published in a special issue of the journal Science. On May 1, 2009 (5 years, 3 months, 27 Earth days after landing; 21.6 times the planned mission duration), Spirit became stuck in soft soil. This was not the first of the mission's "embedding events" and for the following eight months NASA carefully analyzed the situation, running Earth-based theoretical and practical simulations, and finally programming the rover to make extrication drives in an attempt to free itself. These efforts continued until January 26, 2010 when NASA officials announced that the rover was likely irrecoverably obstructed by its location in soft soil, though it continued to perform scientific research from its current location. The rover continued in a stationary science platform role until communication with Spirit stopped on sol 2210 (March 22, 2010). JPL continued to attempt to regain contact until May 24, 2011, when NASA announced that efforts to communicate with the unresponsive rover had ended. A formal farewell was planned at NASA headquarters after the Memorial Day holiday and was televised on NASA TV. Hope you enjoyed it!

Scientists also believe that Europa is the most likely place within our solar system beyond our own planet, to have life living within its vast ocean, making it a an extremely interesting moon. So if one day in the future, humans have developed the technology that will allow us to travel and descend on to the frozen surface of Europa, what will it be like? Europa is one of the smoothest objects in the solar system and this is because of its icy tectonic plates, moving on top of a warmer layer of convective ice, resulting in the surface being constantly recycled. This means that when the space explorers step out side on to Europa's frigid landscape for the first time, they probably wouldn't see huge ancient craters or towering mountains, instead they would see many cracks and ridges, some more than 12 miles wide crisscrossing though the thick Icy crust. It has also been theorised that Europa's equator is covered by countless 10 metre high icy spikes called penitentes, which are caused by the effect of direct overhead sunlight melting the vertical cracks on the moons surface. The astronauts would need a special suit as Europa is no place for human beings, the blistering surface temperature of this frigid moon can be as low as -220 degrees Celsius depending on were they landed. Also the radiation levels that Jupiter emits would cause severe illness or death if the astronaut was exposed for even a single day. Europa's thin atmosphere is composed solely of oxygen, that is maintained by charged particles hitting the cold Icy surface and producing water vapour, however it would be far to tenuous for the exploring humans to breath. The astronauts would feel much lighter, as the gravity on Europa is around 13 percent of Earths, making it feel like they were walking on the surface of our own neighbouring Moon. Because of Europa's weak gravity and thin atmosphere, the exploring astronauts wouldn't experience any weather events, like wind or rain, instead it would be calm, however the explorers might have to withstand some small Ice quakes or dodge giant water plumes shooting out of the icy crust. Looking up in to the sky, the astronauts would mainly see the cold, vastness of space, but they would get the most spectacular view of Jupiter, which would look 24 times larger than our moon appears from Earths surface. Scientist believe that Europa has many more incredible surface features, that hopefully will be discovered or confirmed when NASA has captured more images of the mysterious moon in the future. But, what makes Europa one of most interesting, important and exciting celestial body in the solar system, is that lurking within its deep oceans could be alien life. Which if discovered, would prove that life can independently pop up anywhere in this galaxy that we call, the Milky Way. My twitter: https://twitter.com/Dreksler_Astral Cosmic distances are a lot bigger than they may seem, and light has to cross that path in order for us to see stars and everything. Here i explain what would our planet look like from Andromeda and how big would the mirror of the telescope need to be. Idea for the video given by Der Tery (trough a comment). What Would You See If You Fell Into Neptune? (4K UHD)

What Would You See If You Fell Into Neptune? (4K UHD)

Neptune holds many mysteries but thanks to an old spacecraft and scientists using ground-based telescopes we have an idea of what lurks inside of the strange ice giant. So lets put on our super science fiction space suits and dive directly into Neptune! But what will we find???? Want to help support my channel and also get added benefits? You would be descending at a similar speed too if you were falling towards Earth, as Neptune's Gravity is only 14% stronger than our own planets. Because you are so far away from the sun, very little light reaches this distant part of the solar system, resembling a dim twilight back on Earth. You would first fall through high white, cirrus clouds made of methane ice crystals, at about 0.5 atmospheres, which is half the atmospheric pressure at sea level on Earth. At this altitude it is incredibly cold, dropping to below -200 degrees Celsius (-350degrees Fahrenheit). Around 30 miles down you would enter into the ammonia and hydrogen sulphide cloud decks at about 5 atmospheres. Hear the clouds move faster than the speed of sound on Earth, as Neptune experiences the fastest wind in the solar system, reaching speeds of up to 1500 miles per hour. But because of your super science fiction space suit, you are kept steady and continue on your descent. Because of Neptune's thick clouds and distance from the sun, no light can penetrate this deep and you would find yourself in a pitch black, cold, lonely environment, with violent winds whipping past your helmet. After falling for a long time you would be 100 miles into Neptune, when huge flashes of lightning illuminate your dark surroundings, revealing towering white water ice clouds that are causing rumbling thunderstorms to occur. As you pass through this cloud stage the pressure would increase to well above 50 atmospheres and the temperature would be around 26 degrees Celsius. Using your hi-tech science fiction helmet you can now see what's around you, but you would quickly realise that the cloud layers were the easy part of the adventure. As you emerge from the bottom of the water ice clouds the pressure would become intense and the temperature would drastically increase to above 1000 degrees Celsius. After a very long time of sinking, you would be around 4000 miles into Neptune and within the planets mysterious mantle layer. Hear your suit would have to withstand pressures greater than 10,000 atmospheres and increasing temperatures higher than 4000 degrees Celsius. This strange superheated layer is composed of water, methane and ammonia ices that behave as a hot dense fluid under immense pressures. Because of these extreme pressures carbon atoms might also crystallise and form diamonds. As you descend ever closer towards Neptune's core, these diamonds would rain down around you like glittering hailstone, as they slowly sink through the liquid mantle. After a long time of sinking through this thick region, with the pressures and temperatures continuing to drastically increase, your adventure would come to an end. Thousands of miles into the planet you would be standing on Neptune's core, a surface roughly the same mass as Earth and made of rock, iron and exotic ices, possibly with a layer of nestled diamonds. In this region you would be stranded, unable to travel further and unable to escape. You would be doomed to spend the rest of your life in a scorching environment with your science fiction suit having to withstand the temperature of above 5000 degrees Celsius and pressures of above 7 million atmospheres.
