Brian May - Star Licks (Guitar Tutorial 1983) - Full Version

In 1983, Star Licks Productions created a series of instructional videos featuring well-known musicians demonstrating their unique musical styles and techniques. The portfolio debuted with a wide-ranging group of players including Steve Lukather of Toto, Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Al McKay (Earth, Wind & Fire) guitarist Albert Lee, and acclaimed guitarist/educator Wolf Marshall. In this video, Brian discusses his equipment and techniques, and demonstrates a number of his guitar solos. He covers both famous and lesser known Queen songs, including Brighton Rock, Tie Your Mother Down, Somebody To Love, It's Late, Dead On Time, Put Out The Fire, It's A Hard Life, Keep Yourself Alive, Jesus, Father To Son and Crazy Little Thing Called Love. The programme was produced and directed by Mark Freed and Robert Decker, and recorded at Sarm West, London, England. The video was originally released in 1983 and later reissued in 1993/4. Note from Brian : Mark initially came to me with an idea for making audio cassettes of guitarists explaining their techniques. It seemed a good one and we arranged to meet and make it happen. But I said ... if we’re going to the trouble of recording this stuff, why not film it as well, and make it into a Video Cassette ?! So we made a ‘pilot’ video, and people liked it, and this became the template for a whole collection of videos which, I think, stand up very well to this day. Maybe we should do an update ?! Each of these areas will have their own playlist on the Brian May channel. But the intended pivot of it all is the entirely new part that we’re calling Brian Talks. This section will carry current ‘to the camera’ comments, updates and communications, and I’m hoping it will be a proper ‘voice’ for me, an outlet, as well as a way of glueing together the rest of the channel.

Roger Taylor Vs Brian May - Best Moments (Extended & Edited Version)

A compilation of my favourite interview moments with Queen drummer Roger Taylor, mercilessly mocking long time band mate Brian May. Well, to be fair, it's easily done. ;-) No copyright infringement intended. (Sorry about the low sound moments, some of the videos were really quiet so it was a choice between lowering all of the sound to match or just putting up with a few quieter moments. ;-))

Rig Rundown - Queen's Brian May

Rig Rundown - Queen's Brian May

Article and photos: http://bit.ly/BrianMayRR If there was a Mount Rushmore of British guitar heroes, undoubtedly, Queen's Brian May would grace that mountain. We caught up with May and his longtime guitar tech Pete Malandrone on Queen's summer tour with Adam Lambert to talk about his minimal effects, Vox amps, and of course, the Red Special. Brian May's entire career has been almost exclusively spent with the guitar that he and his father built in 1964. "Red Special" is a three-pickup, double-cutaway guitar with Burns pickups and a very unique (at the time) switching system that allows May to cover a huge range of tones. According to May, everything on the guitar is still original from when it was built except for the tuning pegs and the rollers on the bridge. During a typical show, May switches guitars during two songs. "Fat Bottomed Girls," which is in dropped-D tuning, is played with a Red Special replica that's green and was built by British luthier Andrew Guyton. For "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," he uses another Guyton Red Special replica with the addition of an f-hole—which was featured on May's original designs for the guitar— a non-trem bridge, and an internal piezo pickup that is utilized during the opening parts of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." All his guitars are strung with Optima 24 Carat Gold .009--.042 strings. For more on May's rig and setup, visit: http://bit.ly/BrianMayRR

Smith and Jones: Job interview

Smith and Jones: Job interview

SEE MY HISTORY GROUP ON FACEBOOK : https://www.facebook.com/pages/Alan-Heaths-History-Page/173472422695696 Alas Smith and Jones is a British comedy sketch television series featuring Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones. It was broadcast on the BBC from 1984 to 1998. From 1989 to 1992 and 1995 to 1998, it was called Smith and Jones. The series followed in the footsteps of Not the Nine O'Clock News in its use of taboo-breaking material and sketches in questionable taste (as well as bad language), and also featured head-to-head 'duologues' between Smith and Jones. The series shared several script writers with Not the Nine O'Clock News including Clive Anderson, Colin Bostock-Smith and used Chris Langham as a cast regular. Other writers included Andy Hamilton. The show's title was a pun on that of the American television series Alias Smith and Jones. The head-to-head sketches were very much in the Pete and Dud mould - Smith was the idiot who knew everything, Jones the idiot who knew nothing. The series was one of the first to be commissioned by the BBC from an independent company, Talkback Productions of which Smith and Jones were also directors. The format of the Head to Head with similar characters was used by Smith and Jones in a series of commercials. The show also had a brief run in the United States on A&E and PBS. In 1987 (between Series 3 & 4), the duo went on London Weekend Television for The World According To Smith & Jones. The BBC was not happy about the show and came close to canceling it. Reviews were mixed, critics did not know what to make of it, and Smith and Rhys Jones soon appeared back with the BBC for a fourth series later that year. Despite the criticism, The World According To Smith & Jones returned for a second series in 1988, and then flashed from the schedules without a repeat (unlike Series 1, which was repeated in battle against the BBC in late 1987). In 2006 Smith and Jones returned with The Smith and Jones Sketchbook, recorded in front of a live audience acting as a look back at their earlier shows. My channel is one of the most prolific from Poland. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced around 1,600 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating! There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers. Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine! Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
