How to remove a broken bolt in a deep hole | remove broken bolt in recessed hole

How to remove a broken bolt in a deep hole | remove broken bolt in recessed hole

It can be difficult removing a broken bolt or stud that is recessed in a deep hole as there are not many techniques to remove the bolts. Before attempting to remove any bolt, it is a good idea to shock the bolt first, then apply some heat and finally some spray penetrant (once it is cool). Drilling out the bolt is one of the few options that will work in this scenario. In this video I show two techniques that could potentially work when a bolt is broken in a deep hole or a bolt is sheared in an aluminium component. I then blasted the tank removing most of the surface rust. I also used paint stripper to remove the paint. Next, I treated the surface with rust remover. This will remove any hidden rust remaining and also prevent rust from returning. I then welded the holes up and checked for leaks by filling the tank with water. Once I was sure it wouldn't leak, I treated the inside of the tank with Rostio and sealed it with Rostio emulsion. Then, I filled the dents and prepared the surface for the etch primer. Once etched, I then dropped the tank and had to refill the new dents. I then primed the tank and sanded back with 400g and 1000g wet or dry. Once ready for paint, I mixed up the base coat and applied three coats. When it had dried fully I applied a Royal Enfield stencil and painted over it with deep black. I then had to wait for this to dry before applying the final coats of lacquer. A new cap was purchased and added and the restoration was complete. I didn't show the sanding back and polishing stage of this project as this is something my friend will be doing. His choice. - Disclaimer: I am no professional. Especially when it comes to electrics. From Saw Blade To Knife | Cleaver

From Saw Blade To Knife | Cleaver

Made a cleaver out of an old woodworking circular saw blade. These old blades are all made of decent tool steel that can be hardened to a decent degree (this particular blade ended up with hardness between 50 and 55 on the Rockwell scale). Of course, if you plan to make one yourself be sure to test if the steel can be hardened so you don’t waste time in case it’s not. The unusual design is a result of the material constrain I had since the saw blade wasn’t all that big to start with. For once it has been real fun to limit my design based on material and I ended up liking the end product quiet a lot! The handle materials were made in past videos. Stabilizing wengè: https://youtu.be/E-P3KWctkk0 Making white linen micarta: https://youtu.be/oxzVWyvLHmE I say it has been a great opportunity to make a knife completely out of recycled material and stuff that I made previously on the channel. Steve Wyrick's invisible gas tank being built on American Chopper

Steve Wyrick's invisible gas tank being built on American Chopper

http://www.stevewyrick.com When at first your efforts tank, try, try again. As Rick of Orange County Choppers noted, “When you do something new like this, chances are you’re not going to get it right the first time.” That was certainly true when it came to the creation of the invisible flame gas tank that illusionist Steve Wyrick had challenged the Teutuls to create when they were building his “custom chopper” to celebrate his 1,000th show at Planet Hollywood and his epic reveal of the bike on the Las Vegas Strip. Jim had never done anything like this before but his idea was to take an existing gas tank and cut out the flames. First, he fills the tank with sand. “We’re making sandcastles,” he cajoles. But, in truth, with so many cuts on so many axes, there is plenty of room for things to go wrong. And it does. Some of the flames are hanging loose as opposed to together and when he puts it on the water jet, sand comes oozing out in some spots because the tank is a lot thinner than he thought. He says he will wait until the next morning to see if it will work out. Rick is busy creating the exhaust that will make the bike unique. The next morning, Jim gets back to work cutting the flames but encounters a few problems. So he takes the tank to Rick to figure out how to fix it. That’s when they discover that Jason’s tank is taller on the model than the one that Jim put on the water jet. Jason wanted to save the tank but it had too many problems. With the tank going up in flames, so to speak, they went back to the drawing board and brought in a new designer who gave them some good suggestions to avoid the problems of the first tank. It is proving to be an “exhaustive” process to get art and construction to meet and co-exist.

This blew the breaker on my house and left me in the dark. It didn't work. So I moved onto the restoration. I fully dismantled the fan before removing all of the loose dirt and dust from the main pieces. I also soaked the smaller bits in concentrated degreaser for some time whilst agitating every now and again. Once all of the big pieces also got cleaned with contact cleaner and degreaser it was time to paint strip the black bits. This was a tough job as the original paint was SO THICC. I got there in the end. Once all rust and paint had been removed it was time to mask up in preparation or painting. As usual, I hit all of the pieces with etch primer, high build primer, sanded that back and then gave them a few coats of Quartz Deep Black and Quartz Crystal Clear to finish. Apart from me not taking the colder weather into account, they came out quite nice. Whilst I was waiting for that to fully dry, I set about attaching some new vintage style cable to the existing loom. I'm getting better at electrics and soldering but I still have a lot to learn. I then replaced the power cable and sanded and polished the fan and fan cover. It was then time to reassemble everything, which was a very daunting task. Much easier to take things apart than it is to put them back together again. It looks simple in the video, but it was a full day experience. Once assembled the restoration was complete. Once back together the fan worked and worked well for being nearly 100 years old. Although the rotating mechanism didn't work as the shaft with protruding balls in it had worn down so much it couldn't grip the gear. Hard to explain. I will be researching way of trying to get this replaced or repaired. - Disclaimer: I am no professional. Especially when it comes to electrics. It is certainly an area I am looking to improve in. I am completely self-taught and have no previous trade experience. I would appreciate any feedback, advice or constructive criticism. Paintless Dent Repair Using a Heat Gun and a Can of Compressed Gas Duster

Paintless Dent Repair Using a Heat Gun and a Can of Compressed Gas Duster

Can you repair dents in an automobile with a hair dryer and a can of compressed air? Yes and no. It depends upon the location and severity of the damage. But as I have demonstrated, with a heat gun, $9 worth of Endust Duster, and about 15 minutes, you can achieve some remarkable results. Read more at... http://blog.yagelski.com/2011/10/paintless-dent-repair-using-heat-gun.html Responses to the most common criticisms: Q. Why didn't you just push the dent out from behind? A. This is a hybrid vehicle and there is A/C equipment for battery cooling that is located between the sheet metal and the interior finish. The dent was simply not accessible from the inside. Q. Why didn't you just use a toilet plunger and pull the dent out? A. That may have worked on the larger of the two dents, but the surface area of the smaller dent would have made that impossible. Q. This video and photos of the dents have been Photoshopped and faked! A. Absolutely not. I will gladly attest that this video and the images of the dent, before and after, have not been retouched. I also have a witness who observed the process and would attest the same. Q. "Tapping" the panel like you did in the video would have popped the dent out without the heating and cooling. A. My attempts to pop the dent out with persuasive tapping by hand and a rubber mallet prior to the heating / cooling did not have any impact. Q. This process didn't help, you can still see the dents! A. Yes. if you look closely you can still see the smaller of the two dents. However, the larger of the two is not distinguishable to the casual observer. This process made a significant improvement to the appearance of both dents. It is not a factory perfect repair, but this is not a valuable vehicle either. I could not justify the expense of a professional body shop for a vehicle that is seven years old and +150,000 miles. This process provided a good alternative.

Motorcycle Restoration Part 9: Seat & Tank

Motorcycle Restoration Part 9: Seat & Tank

If you like to tinker with your bike at weekends, we've got a treat for you here. The latest clip in our Saturday Sessions YouTube series shows our Honda CB550 coming together with a freshly restored tank and seat unit ... and it's enticingly close to hitting the road again. The bike's owner, Harry Woods of New York agency Woods Witt Dealy, popped into the E3 Motorcycles workshop to help with the tank and seat prep, and discuss finishing options. "The stock tank looked great on film and from five feet out," says David Browning. "But the interior was rusty and needed work to get back into service." A decision was made: the tank would be sent out for nickel plating, and the seat foam would be slimmed down a little. "I then took the seat pan to Jesse's Plastic Covers in Brooklyn," says Browning. "It's an old school shop with no website, but I can't say enough good things about those guys and their upholstery." E3 repainted (and dressed down) the tank badges to offset the bright nickel plated finish. Next up was the fun task of removing the rust and old gas varnish from the tank, and applying the liner. The headlight mounts needed attention too. "On the SOHC4s they tend to trap water between the upper and lower triples, causing the fork tubes to rust," says Browning. "The lower forks and travel area on this set were in great shape, so we opted for a simple black wrap to cover the affected area—after cleaning up and neutralizing the rust." Browning has also earmarked a Yamaha SR250 rear fender as an alternative to the large stock unit. Any parts from the CB550 that were not reinstalled were bagged, tagged and stored away—should Harry ever decide to go back to an all stock configuration. ___ See the original post at http://www.bikeexif.com/motorcycle-gas-tank ___ Check out our full video catalog: http://youtube.com/user/BikeEXIF Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BikeEXIF Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/bikeexif/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/BikeEXIF Google+: https://plus.google.com/+bikeexif ___ SUBSCRIBE to the Bike EXIF Channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=bikeexif -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Watch next: "Classified Moto x Rebel Yell: 'Frank'" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FnUnMo6PvM -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
