Americans Have No Idea How Much Fuel Idling Uses

Americans Have No Idea How Much Fuel Idling Uses

How much fuel does engine idling use? Does idling waste fuel? How much fuel does it take to start a car? Do engine start-stop systems save gas? The truth about engine start stop systems. EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 How much fuel does an idling engine use? After how long will an idling engine use more fuel than simply shutting the engine off, and then restarting it? It turns out, most Americans have no idea, as the journal of Energy Policy interviewed 1,300 US drivers, and the average time guessed was 3.6 minutes! 3.6 minutes worth of engine idling fuel required to simply start up an engine! Well, let's put the myths to rest and look at actual data, published in the journal of SAE. Researchers took two identical engines and measured their idle fuel consumption, how much fuel they required to start up, and then spent time conducting real world driving tests to see if engine start-stop systems actually save fuel. Check out the video to see the results! Octane vs Cetane Number - Gas vs Diesel

Octane vs Cetane Number - Gas vs Diesel

What is octane rating? What is cetane number? Gas & diesel ratings. Does Europe Have "Better" Fuel? - https://youtu.be/zf-OYXlhJis Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Related Videos: Dyno Testing Different Octanes - https://youtu.be/gqvhaPLuTPI Ignition Timing vs Horsepower - https://youtu.be/R1tPT7anjwk What Is Octane Rating? - https://youtu.be/cfhTTuxF6Mk RON vs MON vs AKI - https://youtu.be/zf-OYXlhJis What is octane rating? What is cetane rating? When purchasing gasoline or diesel fuel you’ve likely noticed the selection of numbers available to purchase, whether it’s 87, 91, 98, etc. The numbers shown are the octane rating for gasoline, or the cetane rating for diesel fuel, and these numbers indicated properties about the fuel you’re buying. The octane rating tells you how resistant a fuel is to knock; another way of thinking about this is how much can you compress that fuel, mixed with air, before it ignites from the heat and pressure. A Cetane rating is the ignition delay of a diesel fuel. Both scales originally were designed from 0 to 100, though Octane ratings above 100 are certainly possible. The scales get their names from the hydrocarbons Octane and Cetane, both of which represent a rating of 100 on their respective scales. The video brakes down both of these concepts in detail, and how a low or high rating affects performance and efficiency characteristics of an engine.
