How has the octopus become so intelligent and capable of thinking in the abstract? Watch fascinating and often hilarious experiments to see just how smart they are.

After this video, you'll never think about the octopus the same.

In this fascinating documentary we get to see how octopuses behave in the wild too. Off the coast of Vancouver Island, underwater divers are watched by a huge octopus - a ghost like creature that lurks until it feels it's safe to emerge and be seen. It's an eerie encounter.

The octopus uses cognitive reasoning to make deductions and understand its environment. It can shape shift, change color and texture on the fly to blend in with its surroundings to become either predator or defend itself from becoming prey.

In one experiment we see an octopus wrap its tentacles around a screw-top jar that has a crab inside it. In slow but determined fashion, the octopus successfully opens the jar to get to its prey. The jar is unlike anything it would encounter in the wild - the octopus has used cognitive reasoning, not instinct, to catch its well-deserved lunch.

The octopus has lived side-by-side with humankind from our earliest days. But it's only now that we're beginning to unravel the animal's secrets, and the extent of its formidable brain-power.

Watch as an octopus slips out of its tank and slithers casually across a concrete floor. Is it making a break for freedom? Not at all. It knows that its prey is just a short distance away in another tank.

As we learn, the octopus can move on land as well as underwater and the little round trip it has taken is not just to get from point A to point B. It's also taking this little detour because it's curious about the world it is living in.

It's hard to believe that this animal is simply a mollusk. As far as his family tree goes, the octopus is more closely related to an oyster or a snail than to any other species of animal.

And yet, as octopuses behave like shape shifters, moving in and out of tiny openings to get their reward, they are working out solutions the way humans do.

They are able to think in the abstract.

Amazingly, with all its powerful traits, the octopus has never become king of the sea. Researchers think that it's because of the female's short life span.

They give up everything, including their life, for their eggs.

Just how has an animal that is so different from humans become so intelligent?

From Spain to Vancouver Island and finally to Capri, Italy, follow scientists as they try to understand how the octopus has evolved to have such intelligence, even by our standards.

Here's Why the C-5 Galaxy Is Such a Badass Plane

Here's Why the C-5 Galaxy Is Such a Badass Plane

The largest military transport in the U.S.'s arsenal is also one of the largest planes in the world. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the aptly named C-5 Galaxy, and it's been five decades worth celebrating. With the ability to swallow 50-ton main battle tanks and deposit them on another continent, the Galaxy is an essential part of the global logistics system. As Air Force historian John Leland noted, the C-5 "symbolized the size, power, might and majesty of the United States Air Force," and it still does to this day. For a half-century, the Galaxy has kept America’s armed forces, allies, and far-flung scientists well supplied in the most remote corners of the Earth, and it will continue to do the job for the foreseeable future. Deep Ocean: Lost World Of The Pacific Part 2 - David Attenborough Documentary HD

An underwater adventure in search of living fossils. The island of New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean sits on the equator, where immediately next to a richly-colored coral reef, a sharp underwater cliff drops down to 1,000 meters. A long-awaited exploration down the little known depths of this tropical sea is finally about to start. NHK has teamed up with eminent marine biologist Mark Erdmann, discoverer of the coelacanth in Indonesia. The spherical transparent submarine, which successfully captured the world’s first moving images of a giant squid in its natural habitat, is used as the team encounters true living fossil species one after another. During their last dive, in the darkest depths of caves in the deep-sea cliff, the crew encounters a huge, unknown exotic fish… Narrated by Sir David Attenborough. For this shoot, the submarine was equipped with a cutting-edge 4K camera, for pristine images. Join the film crew on an exciting adventure into a deep sea never before seen by humans, captured on six cameras shooting multi-angles, creating a breath-taking underwater documentary. Part 2: Lights in the Abyss The NHK team that captured the world’s first footage of a live giant squid in its natural habitat is setting out for another deep-sea adventure. They will give us a look at the amazing life forms with luminous bodies that have survived the harsh, pitch-dark deep sea environment of the Pacific.

15 Bizarre Recently Discovered Creatures

15 Bizarre Recently Discovered Creatures

You won't believe these 15 amazing and shocking animal discoveries from a giant bizarre looking bat to rare new species! Subscribe to Knowledge Feed for Myth Mania Mondays, Fact Tree Tuesdays, Wildlife Wednesdays, Origin Thursdays, Fun Fact Fridays & Wildcard Weekends. 9. Albino Sea Turtle Volunteers cleaning up the shores of Australia spotted a very rare albino green sea turtle in February. The creature, which hatched on February 6 was seen wandering on the beach until it eventually headed into the sea. Sadly, the adorable turtle's chances of survival are not high. A common green turtle only has a one in one thousand shot of surviving to maturity, and the albino’s shot is even worse as its light pigment makes it an easy target for predators. 8. Sparklewing Researchers have been busy in central Africa lately. They have discovered 60 new species of dragonflies and damselflies throughout the continent, which is the most to be documented at one time in over a century. One particular type of Sparklewing discovered was called Umma Gumma after the 1969 album called Ummagumma, which is slang for making love. The poor soil of the continent, particularly the central part, is ideal for dragonflies, according to the team. 7. Roly Poly Sometimes new species of organisms are found in the most unexpected places. A carnivorous plant called a giant sundew was recently discovered thanks to photographs posted on Facebook. And last year while on a field trip, students from Loyola Marymount University found a new type of isopod, or pillbug on a rocky beach less than a mile from the Port of Los Angeles. The new species was named after the teacher of the class. 6. Giant Tortoise For years people assumed that the two groups of tortoises found on the Galapagos Island of Santa Cruz were from the same species. They only lived 6 miles apart from each other, after all. Genetic tests performed last year, however, showed researchers the two species were very different and evolved millions of years apart from each other. The discovery enables scientists to provide better help to the tortoises, whose population has dropped to historic lows in recent years. 5. Tiny Salamander Scientists found a new species of salamander in Mexico in November of this year. The new minuscule species has a large tongue and much bigger reproductive organs than similar salamanders. While the discovery is exciting for experts in the field, there is also a flip side. The species, along with almost one-third of all accounted amphibians, are in danger of going extinct. Biologists explain that the creatures are likely to be gone by the end of the century. 4. Peacock Spiders Since 2006 seven new species of these uncommon spiders have been discovered. The spiders are only a few millimeters long, but what they lack in size they make up for in awesomeness. The spiders are remarkably colorful, an aspect which forms an essential part of the creatures mating rituals much like peacocks. They also don’t act like common spiders. Instead, they perceive and react to their environment, much like a dog would. Australian biologist and peacock spider enthusiast Jurgen Otto has gained a large following online thanks to his footage of the arachnids. 3. Pink Elephant You may have thought that pink elephants only exist in cartoons and hallucinations. This thought process may make it surprising to learn that pink elephants can be found in nature, though seeing one is exceedingly rare. Earlier this year a tourist visiting Kruger National Park in South Africa spotted a pink African elephant drinking from a river with its herd. Those in the know believe the elephant to be an albino. Like most other albino animals in the wild, this creatures albinism will significantly decrease its chances of survival. 2. Horse Bat Many websites and blogs feature this picture, where the creature is called a horse bat. Apparently, a Nigerian person found this mystery creature in his friends fish pond. Certainly, this is an odd looking bat who has an enormous face that resembles a horse's. So just what is this bizarre looking oddity? No, this is not some genetically engineered creature that belongs in an episode of South Park. This strange being is a hammer-headed bat, a megabat found throughout Africa. 1. White Bear Wildlife workers in British Columbia recently spotted a bear cub that has since left scientists confused and bewildered. The young black bear is unusual for one very apparent reason; its fur is completely white. Biologists have two possible explanations for the oddity. One is that the bear is a Spirit bear, a light-furred subspecies of the black bear. Another is that the bear is an albino.

10 Abnormally Large Animals That Are Actually Exist ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: miniminter1992.29@gmail.com Everyone loves animals, and we are all fairly familiar with the normal size of most of them. And while most of them are average size for their species, there are other animals so large that it's almost hard to believe until you actually see them. From giant workhorses to snakes that can easily eat a full-grown man whole, we present to you 10 Abnormally Large Animals. 10. Lincoln the Black Shire – Shire horses are a breed of draught horse that is bred for doing heavy work because of their immense size and stature. And that is probably what Britain’s tallest horse was doing before he was rescued. 9. Darius The Rabbit – This rabbit is probably the largest one you will ever see. Darius is the world's largest rabbit who measures 4 feet 4 inches long and weighs a whopping 50 pounds and is officially the world’s largest rabbit. 8. Blosom The Cow – is a 6-foot-4 cow that is officially recognized as the tallest cow by Guinness World Records. 7. Giant Oarfish - Oarfish live in deep water and are rarely seen at the surface, though they are thought to be the inspiration for “sea serpent” tales of old. Giant oarfish are the biggest of the bony fish, which have bone, as opposed to cartilage skeletons, in fact, they are one of the longest known living species 6. Nomura’s Jellyfish – is a plus-sized gargantuan grazer that spends most of its life adrift in the Yellow and East China Seas. Starting life as a pinhead-sized polyp, this peripatetic monster mushrooms rapidly in less than a year to 2-meters, or a massive 6-feet in diameter and more than 200 kilograms, or about 440 pounds in weight. 5. The Giant Pink Slug – is a brightly colored red slug that lives exclusively in Australia on Mount Kaputar. At their largest, they can reach a whopping 8-inches, or about 20 centimeters long. No one knows why this giant slug has a hot red color. 4. Mekong catfish - This giant catfish inhabits the waters of the Mekong River in China, which flows southward into Southeast Asia. The Giant Catfish is an enormous fish with thin, down-turned lips that give it a lonely look. In Thailand, it is known as Pla Buk which means ‘huge fish’ because the size of these catfish is impressive, to say the least with some growing as big as 10 feet, or 6 meters long and weight up to 660 pounds… 3. Big Jake Horse - Big Jake the Belgian Gelding horse has earned worldwide fame for his extraordinary height. The 15-year-old Guinness World Records titleholder measures just under 6 feet 11 inches and weighs around 2,600 pounds. 2. The Chinese Giant Salamander - is the largest salamander and the largest amphibian in the world, reaching a length of 180 centimeters, that’s about 5 feet 9 inches long, and it can weigh up to 100 pounds, although it rarely reaches that size today. 1. The World’s Largest Snake – was caught in Malaysia and measured 55 feet long and was a reticulated boa constrictor. That is a 16.7-meter-long monster that weighed 300 kilograms. Those who found the snaked were probably not happy it was alive.

10 Amazing Animals You Would Like To Have

Top 10 Amazing Animals You Would Like To Have ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/gYLyzW For copyright matters please contact us at: miniminter1992.29@gmail.com ################################ ► Website: http://vid.io/xcRS ► Facebook: https://goo.gl/G0HVYw ► Twitter: http://vid.io/xcRO ► Google +: http://vid.io/xcRM ################################ The world is full of a ton of awesome creatures and critters. Some are so small we can barely see them, and others large enough to crush a car! Some animals are definitely less common, and we might not have the opportunity to see them all the time. There are rare breeds of rabbits, and cows with giant horns, and you may not have known that they exist in real life! Hello guys and today I will show you 10 coolest animals in the world Glaucus Atlanticus or "the Blue Dragon" These little dragon-like creatures are often only about a few inches long and can be found in the Indian Pacific Oceans. It’s silvery grey on its dorsal side and dark and pale blue ventrally. It has dark blue stripes on its head. It has a flat, tapering body and six appendages that branch out into rayed, finger-like cerata. Angora Rabbit These cute, fluffy rabbits are among the hairiest breeds of rabbit of both wild and domestic types. These rabbits originated in Turkey although managed to spread throughout Europe and was even brought to the United States in the 20th century. These rabbits are often bred for their soft wool which can be made into clothing, and often get rid of their own coats every 3-4 months. Axolotl The axolotl or "Mexican salamander" (who looks like a Pokémon) is often spotted in lakes in various places around Mexico. These little salamanders are amphibious although often spend their adult lives strictly in the water. Bearded Vulture I don't know about you all, but this vulture reminds me of a phoenix which was initially why I looked into the creature. These vultures inhabit a range of places from southern Europe to the Indian subcontinent, to Tibet. This vulture, like other vultures, typically eats dead animals, although it has been documented that the bearded vulture will attack live prey more often than other vultures. Pink Fairy Armadillo The pink fairy armadillo is the smallest and cutest species of armadillo. It is on the list of threatened species and is found in the sandy plains, dunes, and grasslands of Argentina. Okapi The okapi is an animal native to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. Although the stripes make many people believe okapi are related to zebra, they are actually closer to giraffe. Okapi are solitary creatures and come together to breed. They are herbivores, mostly eating leaves, grass, and other plants. Red Panda This cute, small panda lives in the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. The red panda is rather small, only about the same size as most domestic cats. Its eating habits range from bamboo, to eggs, to insects, and several other small mammals. Superb Bird of Paradise The superb bird-of-paradise is a species of the Paradisaeidae family. It is the only member in the genus Lophorina. It’s a small, approximately 26 cm (10 in) long, (passerine) bird. The male is black with an iridescent green crown, blue-green breast cover and a long velvety black erectile cape covering his back. The female is a reddish-brown bird with brownish barred buff below. The young is similar to the female. The superb bird-of-paradise are a dimorphic species. Jewish History - Evidence Of Ancient Israel - Full Documentary

Jewish History - Evidence Of Ancient Israel - Full Documentary

Documentary on the history of Judaism, the Bible (Torah/Tanakh) and the Jewish people of Israel. Using the latest archaeological evidence from the stables of Ramses ll to little-known ancient Egyptian texts, Egyptologist and Bible Archaeologist show that Israel did in fact exist and had a presence in ancient Egypt. "The Bible's Buried Secrets" is the title of a NOVA program that stirred controversy even before its first airing on PBS, on November 18, 2008. According to the program's official website: "The film presents the latest archeological scholarship from the Holy Land to explore the beginnings of modern religion and the origins of the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Old Testament. This archeological detective story tackles some of the biggest questions in biblical studies: Where did the ancient Israelites come from? Who wrote the Bible, when, and why? How did the worship of one God—the foundation of modern Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—emerge?”

The epitome of pure wilderness: Sardinia

The epitome of pure wilderness: Sardinia

Sardinia has always been the epitome of pure wilderness, an emerald of volcanic origin in the Mediterranean. 1900 meters of coastline and an infinite maze of offshore islands. But Sardinia also has other facets: green valleys, rugged mountains, murmuring brooks, mysterious ruins and a unique fauna. Just off of Sardinia's coast is an untouched underwater paradise - uniquely beautiful, but also dangerous. Pilot whales, dolphins and mobula rays populate the waters at Capo Testa in the north of the island. In the west, the lagoons of Cabras represent a wild landscape of lakes in which thousands of flamingos live and hunt the red brine shrimps. In addition to the flamingos, grey and purple herons and little egrets breed here. Thousands of bats have found refuge in the craggy mountain world of the Supramonte and Gennargentu, with their countless grottoes and caves. In the sea we can observe the mass mating of sea slugs, and thanks to our camera robots and submersible boats we were able to observe beard worms with luminous red gills, as well as bright yellow tree corals in the area surrounding the hypothermal lava holes.

10 Unique Animals You Won’t Believe Exist

10 Unique Animals You Won’t Believe Exist

10 strange and amazing animals that you have probably never heard of. Nature is truly full of surprises! We live in the twenty-first century, and all continents have already been discovered, all secrets of our planet revealed, all mountain peaks conquered. Just when you think you have seen it all, some new bizarre creature makes an appearance instantly restoring your faith in the impossible! TIMESTAMPS Mangalitsa Pig, a.k.a. “a pig in sheep’s clothing” 0:50 Rhinopithecus or golden snub-nosed monkey 1:33 Emperor tamarin 2:13 Patagonian Mara 3:04 Fluffy cow 3:52 Markhor Goat 4:44 Raccoon dog 5:23 Blue Footed Booby 6:25 Malayan Colugo 7:13 Venezuelan Poodle Moth 8:09 BONUS 8:56 SUMMARY - The birthplace of this curly-haired pig is Hungary where it was discovered in the mid-19th century. Due to the fleece covering this animal, it resembles a sheep, therefore, such a name! - The name of this species is roxellana, and there is a story behind it. It is believed that they were called this way after the supposedly snub-nosed courtesan of Suleiman the Magnificent (a 16th century Sultan of the Ottoman Empire). - They were called like this because of the resemblance of their mustache to that of German Emperor Wilhelm II. - Patagonia Mara is the fourth largest rodent on our planet. There are several interesting facts about them. Females often put offsprings into crèches for safety. - Fluffy cows are looked after by people whose work is to wash, dry and use products to style these animals, so they look as fluffy as they do! It is necessary to maintain them daily, and it will take months of regular grooming until they get this lovely look of kids toys. - If you see a creature which looks as if it’s trying to catch an alien radio signal from space, it’s most likely Markhor Goat. They can grow as long as 6 ft from head to tail! - If you can’t decide if you want to have a dog or a raccoon as a pet, we have just the thing for you - raccoon dog! Despite having raccoon-like markings on their fur, they are not very closely related to the North American raccoon. - Blue Footed Booby are to catch your eye if you ever visit the Galapagos Islands. They can look a bit clumsy and comical on land, but they are excellent at flying and swimming. - Colugo has a large gliding membrane (like a flying squirrel), and they can glide for long distances between trees standing far apart. - Even if the Poodle Moth may look as if it lives in Antarctica with all this fur, in fact, it comes from Venezuela, a tropical country. Its hairs don’t serve for heating. BONUS Cloud Antelope! This species lives in the clouds (that’s why such a name)! Its bright blue fur is the reflection of cloudless blue skies in the area of its habitat. Its diet consists of sun rays and candies...
