Furtwängler Eroica most lively! Special transfer of Beethoven 3, Berlin Philharmonic Dec. 8, 1952

To Wilhelm Furtwängler's 60th anniversary of death a new transfer of Beethoven's 3rd Symphony "Eroica" that was conducted live by Furtwängler in the Titania-Palast, Berlin on 8 December 1952. MORE below. Direct access to movements: I 0:10, II 16:40, III 35:33, IV 42:07 (DEUTSCHer Text unten) It is the purpose of this production to let the listener experience - better than up to now - the singular intensity of a performance by Furtwängler. Hear the difference, compare with other publications of this Eroica recording! Or simply let you thrill by Wilhelm Furtwängler and his Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. To get a "good seat in the concert hall" please consider the following tips: If you own a powerful computer you should use the better sound quality of High Definition video. (Click at the gear below the video and choose Quality 720p HD) For better sound and liveliness switch off the monitor. For listening music videos from YouTube I strongly recommend Google´s Chrome browswer. It sounds in this case significantly better than Internet Explorer (2nd place) and Firefox (3rd place). It would be ideal if you connect your computer to a good HiFi system. Then you can reproduce the bass that is so important for experiencing or feeling the music. I did a lot for the reanimation of this recording - now it is up to you how much you exploit this offer. DEUTSCH: Zum 60.

Furtwängler Beethoven No 5 most lively! Berlin Philharmonic Alte Philharmonie 1943. Special transfer

Furtwängler Beethoven No 5 most lively! Berlin Philharmonic Alte Philharmonie 1943. Special transfer

Beethoven 5th Symphony: Furtwängler Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Alte Philharmonie 1943. MOVEMENTS: I 0:09 II 8:16 III 19:18 IV 25:17 [TIPS for best listening below] There exist at least eleven Furtwängler recordings of Beethoven´s 5th symphony. The 1943 recording is the most famous of them. It has more power than any other 5th in the history of recorded music (as far as I know). It is easy to experience this by listening to a CD. But there is much more to enjoy than powerful outbursts. Despite - or maybe just because - of the very flexible tempo the symphony was played in an extremely organic and compelling way. From the first to the last note there is a pull that is irresistable. The feeling of an inner necessity and objective beauty comes up in the listener. It is hard to get such an experience by listening to a CD. I did my best to give you the opportunity to listen as well as possible to a not manipulated copy of the original tapes that was broadcasted 1994 in Berlin. Compare this transfer with your CD and you will see what I mean. (But follow the tips I give below.) One problem - not the only one - is that commercial products like CDs have to fit to several expectations and demands of producers, sound engineers and customers. Selling a raw copy of an old tape with many noises of different kind and other deficiencies is much too risky for commercial success. Unfortunately the cleaning of old sources has always disadvantages. For a better sound you pay very often with a loss of musicality (timing). The inner structure of an interpretation, the story the musician wants to tell gets more or less lost. * Some tips for listening this upload best: Remember that the computer is not designed for music reproduction. If you just listen without bothering many things will reduce the quality of what you want to enjoy, hence your enjoyment itself. I recommend the following steps: 1) If you have a powerful computer with good sounding speakers use the 720p HD option of YouTube (1080p gives better pictures but often less liveliness of music.). In case of a weak computer choose 480p. 2) Close all computer programs you do not need at the moment. If you can switch off the screen do so. 3) I strongly recommend Google's Chrome browser for YouTube videos. Other browsers are not as good in comparison. 4) If you own a good Hifi system connect your computer with it. Best via a good USB digital-to-analogue converter and an audiophile USB cable. 5) I generally recommend for historical recordings that are not cleaned by sound engineers to listen with loudspeakers and not with headphones. This I recommend especially for the Beethoven 5 from 1943.

Mozart: Symphony No 40 (1949) Furtwängler/Berlin

Mozart: Symphony No 40 (1949) Furtwängler/Berlin

Many of the greatest recordings we have from Wilhelm Furtwängler are from live performances, including this one. The most desirable way to enjoy Furtwängler is in live performance, as this is when he was at his best. Although there are numerous recordings of this symphony by him, including a studio performance from 1948, the Weisbaden recording from 1949 is not only his best sounding, it ranks, in our opinion, among his greatest performances. This is the G minor the way it should be played; and the Berlin Philharmonic has never sounded better. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 40 K.550 1. Molto allegro 0:06 2. Andante 5:57 3. Menuetto. Allegretto 15:04 4. Allegro assai 19:29 Wilhelm Furtwängler, conductor The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Recorded live at Wiesbaden on October 4th, 1949 The fidelity here is pretty amazing, the recording's only flaw is a minor clip at the beginning, which we decided to leave alone. It is understandable; when engineers ask for level in rehearsal, they always ask for the loudest peak. Like all performers, musicians usually go way "up" when in front of a live audience, that is part of the performance. Furtwängler's performance so is filled with enthusiasm that the audience is too mesmerized to even cough. Who can blame them? The 40th Symphony is one of Mozart's most visceral in its impact, and Furtwängler renders it with palpable feeling. Officially, the Romantic Age began with the "Eroica". Unofficially, many believe it began with the opening bars of this symphony, which probably received its first performance posthumously under the baton of no less than Antonio Salieri. This is not stereo. To understand more about how this was done, go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDJ3JuVi-yU
