Apple Watch Series 4 Vs Series 1 - My Experience
Welcome to my apple watch series 4 vs series 1 video. In this video I’ll be sharing my thoughts & experiences using the new 44mm apple watch series 4 & my thoughts on whether it’s worth the upgrade! So stay tuned!
The first thing I really noticed & enjoyed is the new larger screen size! The new screen is over 30% larger than my series 1 42mm & it’s really made a difference! When I used to type in my passcode to unlock my Apple watch on the series 1 I used to make typos often, now with the larger screen the buttons are just big enough where I don’t make those typos anymore! It’s been really great! I’ve also really enjoyed the fact that I can still use all of the same watch bands that I purchased for my series 1, as I have quite a collection! And of course I’ve really noticed the brighter display & higher resolution of the screen! Especially when I use the flashlight in control centre to unlock my door when I get home at night!
Of course there’s also been a noticeable difference in speed. I found my series 1 to be acceptable when i was using it, but there were delays, like when I would check the weather using the weather network app I’d usually have to wait 10-15 seconds for the weather data to populate. Now On the series 4 the weather network app loads & populates in about 2-4 seconds. Much faster! The second big example was the workout app. When I used it at the gym I got into the habit of starting to load the app on my watch on my way from the change room to the first cardio machine for warmup as it would take about 10 seconds to load sometimes. On the series 4 it’s pretty much instant! So now I don’t have to worry about preloading the workout app anymore!
My only real complaint about the new series 4 apple watch is how they seem to be fazing out the now playing complication on most of the new watch faces, as this is one of the major things I use often to control the music playing on my iPhone through my AirPods. I used to always use the modular watch face. You can still use this watch face, but I’ve noticed in the updated version of the modular watch face, the info graph modular that the now playing complication is no longer an option. It’s also absent on the info graph watch face as well. But The now playing complication is still available on the vapour watch face as long as you choose the circular option. I really do like the look of the new inforgraph watch face, I just wish they would integrate the now playing complication on it somewhere! I do use the music app workaround, where I go into the music app, then choose “on iPhone” & then “now playing”. But it’s not quite as convenient as just one button press!
When I bought the Apple Watch series 4, this time I also opted for the cellular version. I’ve found when I’m at work I often leave my iPhone at my desk & am often out of bluetooth range of my iPhone, so now I don’t worry about missing a call or text!
Another update that I think has made a difference is the haptic feedback on the digital crown. It’s a very subtle change, but after a while once you’re used to it, it feels strange for it not to be there when I go back to my series 1. It really is a nice touch & makes changing the volume or scrolling through lists feel easier somehow, like that extra vibe makes you feel like you understand where you are in the list & that you’re actually moving the volume or scrolling down the list, like a physical connection to the device!
So was the upgrade worth it? I really think it was. If you’re in a situation where you can upgrade, I really think it is worth it for the sheer difference in speed alone, as I’ve found myself using apps on the apple watch more often now that they load this fast. I’ve also fallen in love with the screen size as that extra difference in size has really made it easier for me to use! Plus I’ve also found the cellular option to very handy as well! It’s been great to be able to leave my phone behind for a short time sometimes when I go for a jog or am away from my iPhone for a while & not worry about missing an important call or text!
