This Tesla Model S Owner Repairs His Own Car

Greg Furstenwerth was an early adopter of the Tesla Model S, but once the car was out of warranty he had a hard time getting the parts and service he needed. So he took on the repairs himself, and found it surprisingly easy. "If you can put together Legos you can put together a Tesla.”

Elon Musk Gives First Look At Tesla's Electric Semi

Elon Musk Gives First Look At Tesla's Electric Semi

Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised the company's first electric semi-truck would be mind-blowing, and he delivered. Musk took the wraps off the big rig on Thursday at Tesla's Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, and the vehicle's design was definitely what got the most attention. The semi can go 0-60 mph in five seconds without a trailer attached. The big rig has an impressive range of 500 miles per charge. With 80,000 pounds of cargo, it can make the same run in just 20 seconds. It can charge up to 400 miles in just 30 minutes when using a Megacharger, which is a new high-speed charger. The interior of the vehicle is minimalistic and designed around the comfort of the driver. The driver position is placed in the center of the vehicle, instead of on the left side. This helps provide greater visibility to the driver, Musk said. The cabin is also spacious enough for the driver to stand. Tesla will begin production of the vehicle in 2019. The company is currently taking reservations for the semi, but a deposit will set buyers back $5,000. A Tesla Semi Was Spotted On A Public Road — Here's An Update On The Truck

A Tesla Semi Was Spotted On A Public Road — Here's An Update On The Truck

Business Insider's Benjamin Zhang and Matt DeBord discuss the Tesla Semi spotting on a public road in California. Following is a transcript of the video. Benjamin Zhang: So you may have seen this video of a Tesla Semi driving around California. We’re not exactly sure what it’s doing. But it’s real and you can see it in the flesh. Matthew DeBord: I’m not sure what they’re doing either. I did see that video. I think, what’s going on is- I saw the truck when it was revealed in Los Angeles. And I think most of the trucks are being kept down their at Tesla's design studio. Somehow one of them made it up to northern California and I think it’s just going back and forth between Tesla’s headquarters which is in Deer Creek in Silicon Valley and Fremont which is where their factory is on the east side of the San Francisco Bay. Benjamin Zhang: We know they can’t even build their Model 3 sedan, how the heck are they going to build the truck? Matthew DeBord: That’s an excellent question. They have one factory, in Fremont, California which currently pretty well maxed out trying to build the Model 3 which is their new mass market vehicle. They hope to sell it for $35,000 one of these days. And then their other two cars the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV was just their as well, and I don’t think they really have room to build a semi truck in there. So you look at the situation, and they're supposed to be building a lot more Model 3’s at this point and they aren’t. It’s a puzzling thing, why can’t Tesla, do a better job at its core -what should be its core competency- which is building stuff. They seem really good at, as you pointed out already, designing stuff, doing really dynamic and interesting reveals of the vehicles that they intend to produce. And then when it gets down to the nuts and bolts aspects which is bolting everything together and rolling it on the assembly line and getting it out to the customers they struggle. Folks are putting money down to buy this truck you know deposit the truck itself is going to be priced anywhere from $150,000-$200,000 I guess that general ballpark by the time they get around to actually building it. Benjamin Zhang: Why are people plopping down this much cash for a truck that they can’t have? Matt DeBord: Well, there have been some cynics out there who have said 'oh yeah sure sure sure these big companies are plunking down their deposits to eventually get their semi their Tesla Semis. And isn't just marketing? Isn’t this just a way for them to say hey we’re on with the green future, the sustainable future, we’re down with electric transportation. On the other hand you might be looking at the truck and saying well, it’s probably going to be- they’re going to operate it in a fleet context anyway that’s probably going to be cheaper to operate over the long haul then my diesel trucks are, if I have a central place where I can charge them up. It’s supposed to be a lot faster than a present-day diesel truck, Tesla’s always distinguished themselves. You got to think about, how cool it is. Right if you get inside the cab of the truck it’s nothing like a traditional you know tractor-trailer big rig it’s nothing like that at all. It’s almost like the deck of a spaceship there are a couple big screens it’s all glass, the driver sits in the middle opposed to sitting off to the side. And they really kind of thought through self-driving aspects of the truck, the drivers' comfort, the drivers' safety, all kinds of things along those lines so I mean it looks like a pretty appealing product and it really doesn’t look anything like you know big rigs that are on the road right now. Benjamin Zhang: But to wrap this whole thing up, in the grand scheme of things where does the Tesla Semi exist, in sort of automotive history? Matt DeBord: Well nobody else is really is directly attacking this problem. Most of the big truck makers are going to stick- are sticking with the platforms they’ve got I mean they might be thinking about hybridizing the big diesels you know instead of making them full electric. Tesla’s going full electric and if they- if it is successful, it will be much more revolutionary and much more game-changing then doing the consumer autos. Instagram: https://goo.gl/CduwlO Subscribe to the Vox Borders newsletter for weekly updates: http://www.vox.com/borders-email I spent a day in Oslo before traveling to Svalbard, and noticed that there were Teslas everywhere. Upon further investigation, I learned that the Norwegian government heavily incentivizes ownership of electric cars: Tesla doesn't pay a sales tax on the models it sells, electric car owners are exempt from automobile tolls, and they can charge their vehicles for free. The catch is that Norway funds these initiatives through its sovereign wealth fund, which is almost entirely comprised of profits from Norway's oil and fossil fuel exports. Tesla Model 3: Top 20 Tips & Tricks!

Top 20 Tesla Model 3 tips & tricks for owners! Ordering a Model 3? Get FREE Supercharging ➡️http://geni.us/t3sla 303 Protectant Spray on Amazon: http://geni.us/XPp9G Best Model 3 accessories on Amazon: http://geni.us/tV1EvF Hard/Soft Reboot: Sometimes something will freeze up on the touchscreen or for example if the web browser doesn't work, you can soft reboot the touchscreen by pressing & holding both scroll buttons (can continue to drive the car while touchscreen reboots). The hard reboot involves pressing both scroll buttons while pressing the brake which reboots the touchscreen and the car itself and during the hard reboot the car cannot be driven until it comes backup. Quick App Viewer: Swipe up on App Switcher to bring up the last app that was opened. Swiping also works on music icon. Another useful way to minimize music app, tap album art to move the music player up/down instead of tapping music icon or swiping the player. Can also swipe left/right to quickly adjust climate control temperature and same with volume. Quick Navigation: Drag down or right on Navigate button to go Home/Work depending on your current location Quick Climate Control: When the defroster or defogger is enabled, instead of turning it off by pressing the defroster icon again which leaves the climate control on - you can hold down the fan icon which turns off climate control and the defroster to help you maximize your range efficiency if you don't need the climate control on. Accurate Projected Range: For a more accurate estimation of your projected range, instead of going off the Rated range next to the battery, look at the energy app and go off the projected range it shows on the average range screen based on your last 30 miles. Quick Speed Limit: When on Autopilot, tap the Speed Limit icon to set Autopilot to that speed Quick Set Speed: We all know scroll wheels can adjust set speed (1 notch for 1mph or quick scroll for 5mph). When you’re on cruise control you can press the accelerator up to a certain speed and then scroll up on the right scroll wheel and it will send cruise to that speed AutoPilot Alert Dismiss: On Autopilot, instead of nudging the wheel if it prompts you, you can alternatively toggle the right scroll button one mile up/down to dismiss the alert. Auto Park: When you are in drive and you come to a stop (Hold) the car will automatically put itself in Park if you open the door. Quick Gear Shift: To shift into reverse when you’re in drive (& vice versa) you don’t have to press the brake as long as you’re going 5mph or less Maximize Battery Life: Set charge limit below 90% for daily driving to maximize the life of the battery Windshield Wipers: Press windshield wiper button on left stalk to bring up the wiper icon on the touch screen (what I would love to see is the ability to double-press the wiper button to enable the wipers) Bug Report: Press voice activation scroll wheel and say "Bug report" and say whatever bug or software recommendation you have and it will automatically send it to Tesla's software team 12V Socket: You may not have noticed but the Model 3 does have a 12V accessory socket inside the armrest. Due to the location it’s actually hidden quite well. The port does not have power when the car is in sleep mode. AutoPilot Tip: Set your steering wheel & seat & save it to your driver profile in such a way that you can comfortably rest each of your elbows on either side for one handed Autopilot Interior Protection: Use 303 protectant spray on the dash and glovebox to prevent scratches/scuffs Turn Off Seat Warmers: When remotely turning on heat from app, hold down on drivers seat to turn off all seat warmers (they all turn on by default) Romance Mode Without Heat: If you want to activate Romance Mode but you want to turn off the heat, you can't do it from the touchscreen but you can do it from the app Phone Easter Egg: Hold down phone icon to change from "Call" to "Ahoy hoy" Quick Charge Port Unlock: Gently tap the rear door handle to unlock the charging port (This may be fixed in a software update soon) Subscribe! http://goo.gl/RqU0nl Twitter http://Twitter.com/slye Instagram http://instagram.com/slye Website http://MyTechMethods.com Share this video! https://youtu.be/I5-TG0Uc5Lc Thanks for watching my video: Tesla Model 3: Top 20 Tips & Tricks Royalty-free music: YouTube Audio Library

TRUE Cost of a Tesla Model 3 (After 10,000 Miles)

TRUE Cost of a Tesla Model 3 (After 10,000 Miles)

After 10,000 miles here's how much it has cost me to own & drive a Tesla Model 3 Ordering a Tesla Model 3? Get FREE Supercharging ➡️http://geni.us/t3sla Best Model 3 accessories on Amazon: http://geni.us/tV1EvF Full Model 3 Review: https://youtu.be/47OFb8786ko Subscribe! http://goo.gl/RqU0nl These numbers are all based off my personal experience so it's not going to be the same for everyone but at least it will give you an idea of the costs and how much a difference it is driving a #Tesla compared to an internal combustion engine vehicle. I’m going to compare my #Model3 acquisition to what it would be like if I kept driving my 2007 Pontiac G6. The total cost of my Long Range #TeslaModel3 was $56,000. I also had to pay $3,422 for taxes. I am getting the full $7,500 tax credit but my car insurance increased by $500/year so assuming I keep my Model 3 for at least 5 years that brings it to $54,422. However we also have to calculate the cost of installing a home charging outlet. This cost heavily depends on your particular location and how difficult the install is. My NEMA 14-50 outlet cost $900 for a professional electrician to install, which is on the expensive side because my box was the furthest possible distance from my garage so they had to run cable underground which increased the price. That brings it to a grand total of $55,322 upfront cost for my First Production Long Range Tesla Model 3, assuming I keep it for at least 5 years. How much does it cost to charge & drive a Model 3 compared to buying gas? My Model 3 is at 10,400 lifetime miles and it’s averaging 233 Wh/mile. So far I’ve only spent $20.29 on four Supercharging sessions, and that resulted in approximately 700 miles of range which means the other 9,700 miles traveled were from charging at home in my garage. To find out how much it’s cost to travel those 9700 miles we need to calculate my electricity rate along with the Model 3’s charging efficiency. My off-peak electricity rate when I charge my car at home is $0.06882 per kWh. However, 100% of the electricity doesn’t make it into the car’s battery when charging at home. This is true for all electric cars. Edmund’s is doing a long-term test drive of the Model 3 and they're measuring the average wall-to-wheels efficiency. So far from their tests they’ve seen an 83.3% charging efficiency (meaning only about 83% of the electricity makes it from the charging cable into the car battery). And if we also account for the amount of battery that depletes as the Model 3 is just sitting somewhere not plugged in (I’ll make a guesstimate and say 3% is a fair assumption for vampire drain), that brings us to 80% total charging efficiency. So 9,700 miles at an average of 233 Wh/mile with an electricity rate of $0.06882 per kWh with an 80% charging efficiency equals $186.65. And if we add the $20.29 I’ve spent on Supercharging that comes to a grand total of $206.94 spent to travel 10,400 miles in my Model 3. If you compare that to my 6-cylinder automatic transmission 2007 Pontiac G6 which averages 21 miles per gallon and using the current average cost of gas in my area which is $2.77 per gallon, the total cost to travel 10,400 miles would be $1,371.81. That means I’ve saved almost $1,200 over 10,400 miles or maybe it’s better to say that’s $1,200 I’ve stopped having to give to gas stations since getting my Model 3. And I’m not driving a car that puts out any emissions which feels great. Also keep in mind there are free apps like PlugShare and ChargePoint that show you locations of thousands of public charging stations, most of which are completely free for anyone to charge their electric car which is something that just doesn’t exist with gas stations. Also I’ve saved so much time from not having to stop at gas stations during my normal weekly driving. It takes me 5 seconds to plug in my Model 3 in my garage. When I drove a gas car I had to get gas at least once or twice per week, and each stop took around 5 minutes. So over the course of a year that’s a huge amount of time saved from not having to stop at gas stations. We could also get into the money saved from oil changes and maintenance but that's another story. So far I’ve paid absolutely $0 in maintenance for my Model 3 so hopefully that continues. It’s been a fantastic car after 10,000 miles and it’s still just as much fun as the day I got it. I hope you enjoyed this detailed look into how much owning and driving a Tesla Model 3 actually costs. Everything That's Wrong With My Tesla Model 3 - Quality Problems

Everything That's Wrong With My Tesla Model 3 - Quality Problems

All of the quality issues that my brand new Tesla Model 3 arrived with. Buy Your Next Car Here - https://www.autotempest.com Huge Thanks To AutoTempest For Sponsoring The Video! A detailed look at the build quality issues with my mid-range Tesla Model 3 including exterior scratches, paint quality issues, panel gaps, and panel placement. What quality issues did my Tesla Model 3 Mid-Range arrive with? It's been heavily reported that while Tesla has been ramping up the production quantity of Tesla Model 3's, the quality of the builds is not fully there. In this video we'll look at all of the various paint scratches on my Model 3, paint defects, and also the mismatching panel gaps on each side of the vehicle. As a control, we'll also look at the panel gaps on my Subaru Crosstrek (a vehicle that cost 1/2 the price), and see how the panel gaps compare to the Tesla at the exact same locations. All of the issues shown in this video are from how the car arrived at my house. I took delivery on November 29th, and the car went straight into my garage at 22 miles on the odometer for this video to be filmed. Tesla Model 3 Review: The BEST Car I’ve Ever Driven

Tesla Model 3 Review: The BEST Car I’ve Ever Driven

Tesla Model 3 Review: Best & most fun car I've ever driven! Model 3 is currently the most affordable Tesla. In the US it's the best-selling all-electric car & mid-size premium sedan. Ordering a Tesla Model 3? Get FREE Supercharging ➡️http://geni.us/t3sla Model 3 accessories on Amazon ➡️http://geni.us/tV1EvF I've been a huge #Tesla fan for a long time but when my smartphone became my car key, that is when it started to change & I truly realized how far ahead Tesla is, technologically speaking. The way it works is I can use the Tesla app to manage many different things on my #Model3 from anywhere - see its location, interior temperature, check if it's charging and how long it has left, view the battery range, turn on heat or AC, remotely unlock or lock the doors, open the frunk/trunk, honk the horn and flash the lights. As long as I have my smartphone with Bluetooth enabled, the Model 3 senses when I'm near the car and it will automatically unlock when I press to open the door, and it's ready to drive when I sit down. It's different than what people are used to but once you know how to do it, it feels completely natural and that's the risk and reward that Tesla took with this design. Windshield wipers can be set to Auto which will enable the wipers to automatically turn themselves on and off based on off it's raining or not. The Trip Planner is great because when you type in a destination that is more distance than your current battery range, it will show you which Superchargers you need to stop at and how long you need to charge in order to get to your destination without running out of battery. It allows music playback through Bluetooth from a smartphone but what I really love is that the Model 3 has built-in LTE connection along with music streaming via Slacker Radio which I find myself using more than Spotify Premium which I did not expect. But when you're playing music over Bluetooth from your smartphone it does display what you're playing on the touch screen and you're able to control the playback from the steering wheel and on-screen buttons in case you wondered about that. Besides the two stalks on either side that have typical controls like windshield wipers, brights, turn signals, parking button, cruise control and autopilot: the wheel itself has two scroll buttons that can be scrolled up or down, pressed left or right, and clicked in the middle. ... My hope is that Tesla can continue to push software updates that will enable more sophisticated voice controls because that's where many of our devices are moving towards and it would be great to say things like "set cruise control to 70 mph" or "open glovebox". Tesla claims this is still a BETA feature but if you're watching this you've probably already heard of Tesla Autopilot which, on certain roads, will automatically steer, accelerate, and brake as needed to stay within the lane at whatever speed you set. To enable Autopilot while driving, double tap down on the right stalk and if it's available it will pop a message saying to keep your hands on the wheel and be ready to take over at any time. On roads when Autopilot isn't available or when it's limited to a certain speed, I will enable normal cruise control with one tap down of the right stalk and it maintains that speed like any other car but if the car ahead slows down, the Model 3 will brake and speed up again to maintain that speed. Even though it's fun to enjoy the quick acceleration, there's sort of an ironic phenomenon that comes with owning a Tesla because I've found it to be a fun challenge to see if I can achieve better range efficiency than my previous drive. In the Model 3 if you need to come to a complete stop while driving like at a red light for example, all you have to do is press the brake pedal until the "Hold" icon appears and then you can take your foot off the brake and the car will stay stopped. When cruise control is enabled it keeps a steady speed even if you're going up or down a steep hill, there's no delay in acceleration compared to my old Pontiac. It's attractive while being fully electric with zero emissions, it's quick yet quiet, it's fast yet safe, it's compact yet comfortable, it's fun yet relaxing, it can travel over 300 miles on a single charge yet has a nationwide network of Supercharger stations for a quick charge when needed, and most of all: the Model 3 is the future, and it's here now. The Model 3 is like the flagship smartphone to the electric vehicle and autonomous car revolution, and once you experience it for yourself you may get a little sad and nostalgic for antiquated gasoline cars because they'll soon be forgotten in the rear view mirror of what is the #TeslaModel3 Subscribe! http://geni.us/AndySlyeYT Twitter http://Twitter.com/slye Instagram http://instagram.com/slye Website http://MyTechMethods.com Share this video! https://youtu.be/gCd4bCg9fhg Thanks for watching my video: Tesla Model 3 Review: BEST Car I’ve Ever Driven

Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous Plus 2018 in-depth review | Mat Watson Reviews

The Tesla Model S emphatically proves that electric cars can be exciting to drive. I try the top spec P100D model – complete with Ludicrous Mode – a car which in terms of both price and performance competes against the Porsche Panamera Turbo. So is it worth switching on to electric power, or is this Tesla a turn-off? Find out what I think in my detailed review. 2017 Tesla Model S P100D vs. 2017 Audi RS7 Performance - Head 2 Head Ep. 88

2017 Tesla Model S P100D vs. 2017 Audi RS7 Performance - Head 2 Head Ep. 88

The world’s quickest sedans battle it out on this episode of Tire Rack's Head 2 Head (http://www.tirerack.com). The Audi RS7 and Tesla Model S have nearly identical silhouettes and are within 0.2 inch in length. They’re both all-wheel-drive, four-door, hatchback sedans with an eye toward luxury and supercar-taunting powertrains. The RS7 was the quickest four-door car MOTOR TREND had ever tested, but the Performance model adds 55 more horsepower for a total of 605 hp from its 4.0L twin-turbo V-8. The Tesla Model S P90D was even quicker, and now the P100D with Ludicrous Plus proves to be even more speedy. It is, in fact, the quickest-accelerating vehicle MOTOR TREND has ever tested—ever. MOTOR TREND Senior Features Editors Jason Cammisa and Jonny Lieberman get the two über-sedans together to see which world’s quickest sedan is better. This episode includes a special appearance by the fastest gasoline-powered car you can buy today, the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S, and a whole lot of horse manure. Tearing Into Tesla's Model 3

Tearing Into Tesla's Model 3

A lot has been written about Tesla’s Model 3. But those reports mostly come from EV enthusiasts and owners. By all accounts they love the car. But so far no one with deep experience in design, engineering and manufacturing has evaluated it, at least no publicly. That’s why we were excited to get an invitation from Sandy Munro to visit his shop and take a look at a Model 3 that he’s about to test and tear down for a competitive benchmarking study. And Sandy found a number of issues that he really doesn’t like about the car, which he pointed out to Autoline’s John McElroy. Take a look. Get more video everyday at http://autoline.tv
