There IS no secret...it's Intermittent Fasting.

There IS no secret...it's Intermittent Fasting.

I lay out the basics of Intermittent Fasting in easy to understand terms. I should also point out that your eating window can change, it doesn't have to be the same every, single, day. Also, IF will not negatively affect your metabolism. The link to the BBC documentary: https://vimeo.com/170735109 The website for Rommel Ramirez, the photographer: http://ramirezcreative.com/

Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Check Out Kettle and Fire Bone Broth Here: http://KettleandFire.com/thomas Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com Fasting: 4 types of Fasts and How Often to Do Each- Thomas DeLauer…There are 4 types of fasting that you can rotate through and get different kinds of benefits, depending on what you're after. We're going to talk about types of fasting that boost metabolic benefits and body composition. We're going to talk about another kind of fasting that you can rotate in and out of that's going to help you with cellular rejuvenation and overall recycling cells. Then we're going to about another kind of fasting that's specifically good for the gut. And then, lastly, we're going to talk about another kind of fasting that is very extreme, known as dry fasting. This is your overall encyclopedia of the different kinds of fasting, and how you can utilize them, and how often you should be utilizing each and every one. All right, let's talk about the first one. The first one is one you've heard of before, intermittent fasting. Now, intermittent fasting is doing shorter periods of fasting, relatively frequently. So, in this case, I'm talking about doing like a 16 hour fast, with an eight hour eating window, or maybe an 18 hour fast, with a six hour eating window, or somewhere in that general ballpark. This is the kind of fast that you should be doing three to four times per week, hence the word intermittent fasting. Some people like to fast every single day, but honestly, I'm a proponent of just fasting three to four times per week so it maintains its effectiveness. Intermittent fasting is best for body composition. Sure, there are a multitude of other benefits when it comes down to brain energy, when it comes down to autophagy, and all kinds of things. But, by and large, the standout benefit is body composition. So, I want to reference a study that helps make some complete sense of this. This study was published in the Journal of Translational Medicine. And it took a look at 34 resistance trained subjects. What it wanted to measure was what happened when you compared subjects that were fasting, doing an intermittent fasting protocol, versus subjects that were not, that had the same amount of muscle, had the same amount of fat, and were eating roughly the same amount of food. The results were pretty crazy. What they did is, they took these subjects and divided them into two groups. One group consumed their food at 1:00 PM, at 4:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. This was the fasting group, intermittent fasting. The other group consumed their meals at 8:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. So basically, they were eating standard meals throughout the course of the day, like a regular diet. Time-Restricted Eating, Ketosis & Sleep w/ Alessandro Ferretti

Time-Restricted Eating, Ketosis & Sleep w/ Alessandro Ferretti

Welcome to episode #160 with Alessandro Ferretti, Dip ION, mBANT. Alessandro is a leading nutritionist in the UK and shared his latest findings in the realm of time-restricted feeding, ketogenic diet applications and using nutrients to rebalance circadian rhythms. This interview is jam-packed with nuggets; so be sure to get and pen and paper out. NOTE: Our usual videographer, Sam couldn't be live in San Diego for this one, so we had a substitute...and thus the audio quality is not what you may be used to. I sincerely apologize for this, and hope you can still catch some of the many takeaways. ➢Connect with Alex: http://alessandroferretti.co.uk -----------------------------------------Lets Connect-------------------------------------- ➢ Listen in iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/160-alessandro-ferretti-time/id910048041?i=1000376965339&mt=2 ➢ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS ➢ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike --------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------- 02:04Time Restricted Feeding: There are different styles. Some of us use stimulants with fats. The best results come from abstaining from ingesting anything of caloric value during fasting. It instigates different glucose regulations and ketone readings. There is also alternate day fasting (a full 24 hrs). The more fat adapted you become and the more regular your ketones in both breath and blood, the stronger the correlation to a sustained increased HRV (heartrate variability), 05:10 Secondary Benefits of Ketones: Ketones are signaling molecules, not just substitutions for macronutrients or energy substrates. Ketones effect metabolic and inflammatory signatures, contributing to an increase in HRV. Beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetyl acetate promotes epigenetic control, mitochondrial protection, and histone acetylation function, reducing free radical damage to mitochondria. 07:16 Inflammation and Exercise: 13:17 Glycogen Storage and Keto Adaptation: The benefits of being a fat adapted person will stay, even when glycogen stores are tapped. 16:36 Inflammatory Proteins and Postworkout Recovery: Casein is often recommended at certain amounts at certain times of the day. Inflammatory proteins, post workout, stimulate more inflammation to shorten the time it takes to create new tissue. 17:11 Post Workout Nutrition and Glycogen Replenishment: We have been taught that we need protein and carbs to spike glycogen replenishment and spike insulin. The body can make glucose and store it as glycogen from virtually every substrate. Through gluconeogenesis from glycerol, fats or protein for the amino acids that are able to be converted to glucose can rebuild the stores. 19:58 Post Workout Fasting: The longer you fast post training, the recovery period is slightly shorter and secretions are made of human growth hormone and testosterone increase healing and shorten total recovery time. This breaks with what we have been taught. 23:25 How Ketosis Enhances our Metabolic Efficiency: Fat adapted people use less heat (thermogenesis) and you produce more ATP, given the same number of carbons you have. On top of that, fat is a cleaner and slow burning fuel. 28:35 Advice for Competitive Athletes and Cross Fitters: To become truly fat adapted, where your body preferentially uses fats to supply energy on demand, depending upon how much oxygen you have available through intensity, can take 3 to 9 months. 38:25 Going In and Out of Ketosis: When learning to be fat adapted, different foods can push the body into alert mode and out of ketosis. 40:22 Lifestyle Shift: Becoming fat adapted is total commitment. We socialize in the evening, when intermittent fasting is best. People can be highly motivated for the therapeutic effects, like positive effects upon epilepsy. 44:28 Where to Start: A good place to start is with a high fat/low carb diet. Begin to experiment. Perhaps try an intermittent fast. Check breath acetone. 44:33 Sleep Quality: Our guts are highly active in the middle part of the day (10 a.m. to 4 p.m), thus it is logical to consume most of our calories then. Food has a substantial impact upon body rhythm. Alessandro travels extensively, but does not suffer from jet lag. He regulates this with food. His body knows that when he eats, part of the day, whatever is left, must be either evening or morning. 51:48 Food and Circadian Rhythm: We discuss how foods can be used to restore (AKA entrain circadian rhythms)

Watch this live to clear it up: https://youtu.be/fd30OmtUp1I Click here to subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more free health and nutrition tips: https://www.youtube.com/thetdelauer?sub_confirmation=1 Intermittent Fasting vs. Time Restricted Eating- Thomas Delauer… Time-restricted eating (TRE) is essentially fasting, or a type of intermittent fasting, but focuses on when to eat, rather than what to eat - popular as “restricted eating” seems less scary than “fasting.” The time constraints of Time Restricted Feeding vary anywhere from a 12 hour eating window, an 8 hour eating window, all the way to 4 hours - refers to when eating is limited to a certain number of hours each day (1) Weight Loss vs Hormonal Benefits- According to researchers at the Regulatory Biology Laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, when we eat may be as important – or even more important – than what we eat. *These guys from the Salk Institute are big on time restricted eating and the following study was to prove how effective it is* Study- Fed two sets of mice, which shared the same genes, gender and age, a diet comprising 60 percent of its calories from fat (like eating potato chips and ice-cream for all your meals.) One group of mice could eat whenever they wanted, consuming half their food at night (mice are primarily nocturnal) and nibbling throughout the rest of the day. The other group was restricted to eating for only eight hours every night; in essence, fasting for about 16 hours a day. Two control groups ate a standard diet comprising about 13% of calories from fat under similar conditions. After 100 days, the mice who ate fatty food frequently throughout the day gained weight and developed high cholesterol, high blood glucose, liver damage and diminished motor control, while the mice in the time-restricted feeding group weighed 28% less and showed no adverse health effects despite consuming the same amount of calories from the same fatty food. Further, the time-restricted mice outperformed the ad lib eaters and those on a normal diet when given an exercise test (2) The difference between the two is more of a verbal approach as the benefits you receive from TRE are those that you would experience from fasting, i.e. reduced insulin, increased hgh, etc. However, the main goal of TRE seems to be focused mainly on weight loss and reducing your overall caloric intake. Reduced Caloric Intake- One study, following “time restricted eating,” found that when healthy adult men limited their eating to about a 10-hour window, it reduced the number of calories they ate each day by about 20% Another study, from the European Journal of Sports Science, reported that young men ate about 650 fewer calories per day when they limited their food intake to a 4-hour period. Downside- While time restricted eating encourages caloric restriction, fasting does not - caloric restriction over an extended period of time does help with weight loss, but isn’t healthy overall. Study- Published in the journal Nature, the results suggest that dramatically cutting back on daily calories - by 30% - does not help monkeys to live longer than those who ate normally. The restriction did help older monkeys to lower their levels of triglycerides, a risk factor for heart disease, but otherwise conferred no significant health or longevity benefit (3) ------------------------ Leptin levels lower and your metabolism comes to a halt. Several studies show that low-calorie diets can decrease the number of calories the body burns by as much as 23% Calorie restricted diets are often lower in protein, which results in muscle loss, but they are usually also low in iron, folate or vitamin B1, which can lead to fatigue. Continuous caloric restriction has also been shown to reduce levels of estrogen and testosterone, contributing to infertility and libido-related issues, as well as reduce bone formation and increase bone breakdown, resulting in weaker bones (4) References: 1) Time-Restricted Eating: A Beginner's Guide. Health lies in healthy circadian habits | Satchin Panda | TEDxBeaconStreet

Health lies in healthy circadian habits | Satchin Panda | TEDxBeaconStreet

Every organ and even every cell in our body has circadian or 24 h clock. Circadian clocks turn on and off thousands of genes at the right time of the day or night. These rhythms work together to maintain healthy balance of brain chemicals, hormones, and nutrients. When our rhythms break down we are more likely to suffer from a wide range of diseases from depression to cancer. We can tune our daily habits of eating, sleeping or getting the right amount of light to sustain our circadian rhythms. Healthy rhythms nurture healthy body and healthy mind. Dr. Satchidananda Panda, a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. Satchin’s work deals specifically with the timing of food and it’s relationship with our biological clocks governed by circadian rhythm and also the circadian rhythm in general. Professor Panda explores the genes, molecules and cells that keep the whole body on the same circadian clock. A section of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) lies at the center of the body’s master clock and gets input directly from light sensors in the eyes, keeping the rest of the body on schedule. Panda discovered how these light sensors work, as well as how cellular timekeepers in other parts of the body function. He also uncovered a novel blue light sensor in the retina that measures ambient light level and sets the time to go to sleep and wake up every day. In the process of exploring how the liver’s daily cycles work, Panda found that mice which eat within a set amount of time (12 hours) resulted in slimmer, healthier mice than those who ate the same number of calories in a larger window of time, showing that when one eats may be as important as what one eats. If the benefits of this “12-hour diet” hold true in humans, it could have profound impacts on treating overeating disorders, diabetes and obesity. The circadian clock, he found, even mediates the immune system. Mice with a crucial circadian molecule missing had higher levels of inflammation in their bodies than other mice, suggesting that genes and molecules involved in the circadian clock could be drug targets for conditions linked to inflammation, such as infections or cancer. 5 Intermittent Fasting Tricks to Burn Fat Faster

5 Intermittent Fasting Tricks to Burn Fat Faster

Learn 5 intermittent fasting weight loss tricks to burn fat faster. These tips will help those of you looking to lose weight fast. If you are on the ketogenic diet some of these tips will benefit you as well 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitychallenges.com/home65d4f?utm_source=ytube&utm_term=fasting Fat Loss Calculator: http://bit.ly/2wplFbl You really shouldn't start an intermittent fasting plan......... Well.... at least not until you watch this video because today I'm giving away the top 5 ways that will allow you to burn fat faster while fasting. If you've already tried intermittent fasting and you did it correctly you've probably already noticed some great results. You probably lost some body fat, maybe lost a few pounds off the scale, and you've become more productive in the process.... which is all great. But I know if you could double or triple your results without spending more time in the gym or in the kitchen you would be more than happy to learn how. Am I right? ....I think i'm right. So let's get started with the very first trick... When you break your fast, during your feeding window you want to stick to foods that don't spike your blood sugar, and more importantly don't spike your insulin levels. And those two things aren't always the same. As many of you already know one of the major benefits of fasting is that it'll allow you lower your insulin levels. Insulin is a fat storage hormone that serves as a bridge between your cells and the nutrients coming into your body. Your body will also stop burning fat when insulin levels are elevated. When we fast we are not just looking to lower calories by not eating, even though fasting will definitely do this the main goal of fasting for fat loss is to decrease insulin levels. And there really is no better solution for doing just that, when you simply don't eat your bodies insulin levels are naturally at their lowest. However, what most people don't realize is that even if you fast perfectly, once you break your fast you can spike your blood sugar and insulin levels high enough to cause your body to actually store fat rather than burn it. So if you want to burn fat at the fastest rate the goal has to be to keep your insulin levels low even after breaking your fast. We can do that by understanding some basic principles and then making a decision on what to eat during your feeding window around those key concepts. First let's get the obvious out of the way.... sweets, processed foods, and junk food will spike your insulin levels the highest while providing the lowest amount of nutrients. So if you want to burn fat faster after breaking your fast stick only to real wholesome single ingredient foods. Most of these foods you'll find by sticking to the outside aisles of your local grocery store or supermarket while avoiding the inner aisles. Next you have to know that carbohydrates have the biggest impact on your insulin levels, certain types of dairy have equally as big of an impact, other sources of protein have a moderate impact, and fat has the smallest impact. By not overindulging in carbohydrates and dairy after breaking your fast you'll already be miles ahead of most people. Since fasting is supposed to be a flexible dieting structure, I don't want you to restrict your carbs or dairy to nothing. In fact by doing that it'll probably make you want to have them even more. Instead I want you to break your fast with a large serving of vegetables in order to fill your stomach up and take the edge off your hunger. Then move on to your protein & fat sources, and then if you're still hungry you can move on to some low glycemic carbohydrates & dairy. This will allow you to limit your insulin spikes during your feeding window without actually thinking about it & without restrictions. Let's move on to the second way to burn fat faster that goes hand in hand with the first tip we just went over. I'm talking about keto fasting. Keto fasting is a combination of the ketogenic diet & fasting. This will make your diet a little less flexible because you will have to adhere to a certrain macronutrient split, but it's an incredibly effective way to speed up the amount of fat lost from fasting. Here you would start by setting up a regular intermittent fasting & feeding window. An common example would be to break your fast at 1 o clock & then switch back to fasting at 9 o clock. But during that 8 hour feeding window, with this method you'll actually want to keep your carbohydrate consumption under only 5 to 10 percent of your total daily caloric intake. This means no grains, no starchy veggies, & only berries for your fruit. You'll also want to keep your protein intake right around 15 to 20 percent of your daily intake because remember protein is also insulinogenic, & your fat should be around 75 percent of your total calories. With this kind of macronutrient split Studies on fasted training: tinyurl.com/ybosvgqf tinyurl.com/y7n9d4jc
