Bruckner: Symphony No.9 - Sir Simon Rattle/Berliner Philharmoniker

Bruckner: Symphony No.9 - Sir Simon Rattle/Berliner Philharmoniker

ALBUM AVAILABLE HERE: http://links.emi.com/RattleBruckner9 ... Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Berliner Philharmoniker in Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 including the world premiere of the latest scholarly revision of the fourth movement that the composer left unfinished at his death. Bruckner was working on the Ninth Symphony until the day he died. He left a stark and magnificent torso that marks the end of the 19th-century symphony -- but he also let fragments and sketches for a magnificent finale that would cap his life's work. In the latest realisation of a completion that has taken over 20 years, Bruckner's finale crowns his musical last will and testament with an intense and visionary splendour. Sir Simon and the Orchestra unveiled the new version at Berlin's Philharmonie in early February 2012 and at New York's Carnegie Hall the same month. "It was fascinating to hear this monumental symphony performed with [its new] final movement. After a quizzical opening and a strong statement of the main theme there are stretches of fitful counterpoint, brass chorales and ruminative passages that take you by surprise. Overall the music pulses with a hard-wrought insistence that crests with a hallelujah coda." Staatskapelle Berlin Musicians Discussing Bruckner and Barenboim

Staatskapelle Berlin Musicians Discussing Bruckner and Barenboim

Select brass musicians from the Staatskapelle Berlin speak about Anton Bruckner and performing Bruckner's symphonies under the baton of Maestro Daniel Barenboim. www.carnegiehall.org/bruckner The Staatskapelle Musicians that appear in this interview include Frank Demmler (Horn), Merav Goldman (Horn, guest), Filipe Alves (Trombone), Mathias Müller (Trumpet), Felix Wilde (Trumpet). *** For the first time in its history, Carnegie Hall presents a complete cycle of Anton Bruckner’s nine numbered symphonies in a single season, performed by the Staatskapelle Berlin and Music Director Daniel Barenboim. Daniel Barenboim, one of the great Bruckner conductors of our time, returns to the Hall after a four-year absence to lead the legendary Staatskapelle Berlin, pairing Bruckner’s symphonies with selected works by Mozart, including two of the composer’s magnificent Sinfonia concertantes. Barenboim also showcases his versatility, wit, and artistry when he leads several of Mozart’s most celebrated piano concertos from the keyboard—works with expressive breadth that brilliantly complement Bruckner’s music.

Mendelssohns - Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor (op. 25) , Yuja Wang, Kurt Masur (Full)

Kurt Masur (direction) Yuja Wang (piano) Verbier Festival Orchestra Mendelssohn piano concerto opus 25 Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor (op. 25) was written in 1830--1, around the same time as his fourth symphony ("Italian"), and premiered in Munich in October 1831. He had already written a piano concerto in A minor with string accompaniment (1822) and two concertos with two pianos (1823--4). The three connected movements — Molto allegro con fuoco in G minor Andante in E major Presto—Molto allegro e vivace in G major use several relatively new formal techniques in their brief span — for example, the piano enters very soon after the opening of the first movement, with little of an orchestral tutti to contrast with.[1] The concerto quickly obtained popularity, and contains many sections of improvisation, one of Mendelssohn's specialities. ===================== 王羽佳 門德爾松 - 鋼琴協奏曲 庫特·馬祖爾

Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73 (Kurt Masur, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig)

From the Church of St. Nicolai, Leipzig, Germany 20 Years Peaceful Revolution - Leipzig commemorates the 9th of October 1989 Gewandhausorchester Leipzig Conductor: Kurt Masur Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 0:28 I. Allegro non troppo 16:15 II. Adagio non troppo 25:48 III. Allegretto grazioso 31:26 IV: Allegro con spirito Watch the full concert here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBjoEdEVMABLHsPnmDHO3SGZ6YFNG5rqO On 9 October 1989, 70,000 people staged a non-violent demonstration calling for more freedom and democracy in the GDR. Thanks to the claim “Peaceful Revolution”, initiated by Kurt Masur as one of six prominent citizens of Leipzig, everything proceeded peacefully. That evening, the Gewandhausorchester played under his baton Brahms’ Second Symphony at the St. Nicolas Church. The following regular "Monday Demonstrations", which came to be described as the “Peaceful Revolution”, became a major milestone on the way to open the Berlin Wall one month later on November the 9th in 1989 and paving the foundations for the reunification of the two German states. Exactly 20 years later, the Gewandhausorchester and Kurt Masur commemorate the beginning of the German reunification by presenting the same symphony at the same location.

Langsam, feierlich [23:24] Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Hans Knappertsbusch Live recording 30/01/1950 Titania-Palast, Berlin Legendary Recordings LR004 Restoration notes - A straightforward affair, the only thing required was some re-equalisation of the frequencies. Apart from that nothing else, not even noise reduction! The audio distorts slightly during louder passages, but apart from that it is a quite fine recording, most especially for 1950 standards. Anton Bruckner - Symphony No. 4 in E flat major "Romantic" - 1881 version, ed. R. Haas Münchner Philharmoniker conducted by Sergiu Celibidache Live Recording from the Herkulessaal, Munich 1983 1. Bewegt, nicht zu schnell 2. Andante, quasi allegretto 3. Scherzo: Bewegt - Trio: Nicht zu schnell. Keinesfalls schleppend 4. Finale: Bewegt, doch night zu schnell The Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache (1912-96) was one of the most adamant personalities in the music world. He rehearsed three times as much as other conductors and avoided making recordings because he believed they were a false representation his musical intentions. This concert from the Herkulessaal in Munich captures one of the rare occasions on which he consented to a recording being made. He conducts the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra with Anton Bruckner's "Romantic" Symphony No. 4 in E flat major.

Anton Bruckner Symphony No. 5 in B flat major - Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin

Anton Bruckner Symphony No. 5 in B flat major - Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin

Accentus Music release on DVD and Blu-ray: The Süddeutsche Zeitung summed up this highly acclaimed performance of Bruckner's monumental Fifth Symphony by saying: "Both Bruckner's belief in God, as it majestically wells up out of the chorale of the Fifth, and his deeply tragic world view, collide with one another in Barenboim's interpretation". The operatic experience of the conductor was almost tangible, revealing the "sheer dramatic instrumental battle between Bruckner's God and the Devil -- between heaven and hell -- without betraying Bruckner's unerring sense of striking proportions." The release of this "contrapuntal masterpiece" (as Bruckner, not without pride, referred to this work) is part of Daniel Barenboim's Bruckner cycle with the renowned Staatskapelle Berlin.
