Horsepower vs Torque - https://youtu.be/u-MH4sf5xkY Awesome Car Products: https://www.amazon.com/shop/engineeringexplained Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Horsepower and torque. They're interwoven, important for the speed and acceleration of your vehicle, and the desire of every gearhead. You take your car to the dyno, and you notice that torque and horsepower cross paths at 5,252 RPM. You add some modifications to your car, increasing both power and torque, and yet again they both cross at 5,252 RPM. Why is this, and is it meaningful? Horsepower vs Torque - A Simple Explanation

Horsepower vs Torque - A Simple Explanation

What's The Difference Between Horsepower & Torque? Why Is Peak Acceleration At Peak Power? https://youtu.be/cb6rIZfCuHI Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Awesome Car Products: https://www.amazon.com/shop/engineeringexplained Which is better, horsepower or torque? Two words that are often stated in the car community, but often misunderstood. This video seeks to clarify the difference between the two, without silly analogies like "horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take it with you" (which, by the way, is highly inaccurate). Torque is a force acting at a radius, while horsepower simply incorporates time into the equation. This video will discuss the differences, how each applies to internal combustion engines, how they relate, what peak torque and peak horsepower actually mean, and how to analyze torque and horsepower curves. Finally, what's more important for acceleration, a car with lots of power, or lots of torque? Let's get technical. With the context of an engine: Power = Torque x Angular Velocity. In imperial units, this translates to Horsepower = Torque x RPM / 5252. Engineering Explained is a participant in the Amazon Influencer Program. Don't forget to check out my other pages below! Torque Is NOT How Far You Move The Wall

Torque Is NOT How Far You Move The Wall

"Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you move the wall." Horsepower vs Torque (Actually Explained) - https://youtu.be/u-MH4sf5xkY EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 If you've ever tried to understand the difference between horsepower and torque, you've likely come across this silly expression: "Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you." And while I created a video without the use of bad analogies to explain the difference between the power and torque (https://youtu.be/u-MH4sf5xkY), the comments were flooded with the inaccurate meme anyways. Unfortunately horsepower and torque shouldn't be oversimplified to a short analogy, even if neither of them are all that difficult to understand individually. In this video we'll analyze the expression, and discuss exactly why it is inaccurate, what a more accurate analogy would be, and hopefully clear up additional misconceptions about power and torque through the use of dyno plots and a comparison between a diesel engine with lots of torque, versus a gasoline engine with not much power. Are Electric Cars The Future? - https://youtu.be/wLrvGtw8jAQ Because electric cars produce peak torque at zero RPM, you might be surprised by the acceleration they're capable of, especially at lower vehicle speeds. On the other hand, internal combustion engines need to be spinning up at a much higher speed than electric motors before they produce peak torque, especially engines like the F20C in the Honda S2000 used in this video. The cars chosen for the comparison are quite different. The Nissan Leaf has high torque, 236 lb-ft, but relatively low power at 147 HP. The Honda S2000 on the other hand has decent power, 265 whp, but low torque at just 163 lb-ft. The engine is designed to make peak power and peak torque at very high RPM, above 8,000, versus zero RPM like the Leaf. The S2000 is much lighter, however. Which vehicle will accelerate faster? I've created a simple 0-80 mph test to show how the torque delivery of each vehicle differs. Don't forget to check out my other pages below!
