Whether it's acceleration, track times, braking distances, useable cargo space, or efficiency, the Civic Type R puts down incredible numbers. At the heart of the Type R is the K20C1 engine, a two-liter inline four-cylinder that's turbocharged packing 295 lb-ft of torque, and 306 horsepower. Gyroscopic Precession

Gyroscopic Precession

NOTE: This video will appear in a playlist on Smarter Every Day hence the references to Veritasium. Destin does lots of cool science stuff - check out his channel if you haven't already http://www.youtube.com/destinws2 We have been collaborating on rotational motion, which is timely for some of the videos I've been doing lately. In this video I talk about gyroscopic precession - the "wobbling" of a spinning top around its axis. This is caused by the torque due to the object's weight. The big idea is that the torque vector increases angular momentum in the direction of torque. So if there is no angular momentum initially, it will cause the system to swing in such a direction that it is rotating with new angular momentum in the direction of the torque. However, if there was angular momentum to begin with, the torque will change the direction of that angular momentum by causing precession.

Torque Is NOT How Far You Move The Wall

Torque Is NOT How Far You Move The Wall

"Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you move the wall." Horsepower vs Torque (Actually Explained) - https://youtu.be/u-MH4sf5xkY EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 If you've ever tried to understand the difference between horsepower and torque, you've likely come across this silly expression: "Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you." And while I created a video without the use of bad analogies to explain the difference between the power and torque (https://youtu.be/u-MH4sf5xkY), the comments were flooded with the inaccurate meme anyways. Unfortunately horsepower and torque shouldn't be oversimplified to a short analogy, even if neither of them are all that difficult to understand individually. In this video we'll analyze the expression, and discuss exactly why it is inaccurate, what a more accurate analogy would be, and hopefully clear up additional misconceptions about power and torque through the use of dyno plots and a comparison between a diesel engine with lots of torque, versus a gasoline engine with not much power. 10 Mistakes Lots of People Make When Buying a New Car

10 Mistakes Lots of People Make When Buying a New Car

According to statistics, most drivers change their car once every six years, which is a pretty long period of time. To take the best out of your car in those six years, to save money and to avoid constant repairing, you’d better avoid ten mistakes many of us make when buying a car. One day you’ll probably decide to sell your car. That’s why you have to consider some important features. According to Paint supplier PPG Industries, white is the most popular car color in the US with 35 percent of all sold vehicles. It is followed by black with 17 percent, and silver and gray that both got a 12 percent popularity. In case you want to purchase some good old German luxury brands such as BMW or Mercedes-Benz, you have to be prepared to pay around $17,800 and $12,900 for ten years of maintenance accordingly. US popular brand Cadillac comes next with an average $12,500 maintenance cost for the same period of time. Additional airbags, a passenger sensing system that can tell the size of the person in the seat and save smaller children in case of a crash, auto-dimming mirrors to reduce the glare coming from headlights at night, head restraints and ABS are some of the things you don’t want to save money at. Make a check-list of features you need to check and think of where you’ll be driving your new vehicle. Try driving on the highway and park in uncomfortable conditions if that’s what you know you’ll have to do in the future. Examine everything to help yourself make the right decision. Don’t be afraid to miss “the deal of a lifetime.” You must have noticed those come up now and then, so you shouldn’t let them pressure you into making a wrong financial decision that will affect your budget for years. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS You don’t think about resale value. 0:32 Car maintenance can be expensive. 1:46 You pay for optional items. 2:50 You buy a brand new car. 3:33 You buy a car that is too big or too small. 4:03 You can’t choose between car’s prestige and technical characteristics. 4:34 You don’t examine the car. 5:19 You miss advantageous offers and discounts. 6:08 You don’t try to lower the price. 6:30 You’re in a hurry. 6:51 SUMMARY -First, the car brand matters: there are brands that are more or less popular among drivers. Second, you need to think about the vehicle specifications and the engine. Third, don’t forget about its color. -Think of how much of your family budget car maintenance can make, and decide if you want to spend that much on your vehicle after you’ve purchased it. -Some drivers don’t smoke inside their cars. In this case, they don’t need an ashtray. An additional corrosion treatment is useless as well because cars already have an anti-corrosion treatment. -The best choice is a car model that is no more than three years old and already well-known. -Try to predict how many times you’re going to travel by car, how many passengers will be there, and so on. -A premium class car will give you better safety, high performance and increased comfort their manufacturers guarantee. -Gather as much information as possible at reliable websites and among your friends, consult an independent specialist, and test drive your chosen car. -The best time to buy a car starts in December and reaches its peak in March. -Try to call or send emails to different dealerships saying you have a better offer and asking if they can beat it. -Spend enough time to gather information, consulting specialists, and weighing the pros and cons. Is Redline Good For Your Car's Engine? Italian Tune Up

Does The Italian Tune Up (Redlining Your Engine) Actually Work? EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Does a redline a day keep the mechanics away? The Italian Tune Up is often thought of as a solution for removing carbon from an engine, but does it really work? Looking into multiple research papers on the subject, I sought to answer three main questions: 1). What temperatures do carbon deposits form? 2). Can carbon deposits be removed from excessive heat? 3). Can engines get hot enough to remove carbon deposits? An engine's redline is the highest speed it can safely operate. At this engine speed, you'll generally be at higher loads, and the stress and strain on the engine is high. Cylinder temperatures increase with the production of more power, and this heat can have effects on the engine internals. Is it enough to remove carbon deposits? Check out the video to find out!
