10 Things Americans Do That Confuse The Rest Of The World!

10 Things Americans Do That Confuse The Rest Of The World!

Top things Americans do that confuse everyone else! These are the confusing and weird customs of americans and things americans do that confuse the rest of the world! #5. “Hollywood Smile”-- Another place that foreigners think Americans are wasting water is at the Dentist’s office. While dental hygiene in other countries may not be as bad as it is stereotyped to be, like in England, they aren’t quite as obsessed with attaining or maintaining the perfect smile in the way that Americans have. Where Americans have been known to spend thousands of dollars on braces and whitening procedures in order to get a pearly white Hollywood grill many foreigners are content with crooked and discolored teeth as long as they aren’t falling out or making them look like Nosferatu. Most foreigners from first world nations care about their teeth, they just haven’t become indoctrinated with the intense beauty standards American society has made a part of its culture in regards to dental perfection. In many countries, having a brighter than normal smile that is unnaturally straight is viewed as superficial to the point of being unattractive or off-putting. #4. “Dining Out”-- Tipping your server and taking home leftover food. Two habits that are so ingrained in the American dining experience that they can be hard to kick, but rest assured if you try doing these outside of the US you are sure to draw confused looks and reveal your Stars and Stripes. In most Asian and European countries a service charge is either already included in your bill or it is not customary to leave a tip. In many places if you do try to tip you can offend your waiter, this is because a tip can be seen as a person having pity on their server or offering some sort of charity. In some countries giving good service is expected whereas in the United States the food industry has become a sort of meritocracy. Foreigners see this as absurd, why should a server be rewarded for something they should be doing in the first place? However, In places where tipping is insulting waitstaff aren’t ridiculously underpaid like they are in the U.S. The other habit that can draw the scoffs of onlookers at a restaurant outside the United States is asking for a ‘doggy bag’ or ‘to-go box’. In many countries, especially European ones the idea of saving a hot meal at a restaurant in order to reheat it and eat it at home is a disgusting prospect. Many dining cultures believe that the food is meant to be eaten exactly how it is prepared by the chef or cook at that moment, not to be consumed after the various sauces and meat juices congeal or have their perfect grilling or baking sullied by your microwave. A lot of the reason that Americans have developed this custom of bringing scraps home with them is due to portion sizes being generally much larger in the States than elsewhere. This may be a result of capitalist consumers becoming obsessed with getting their money’s worth causing restaurants to have slowly battled to stuff people’s gullets.

Follow David on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.hungry.tourist/ Also, thanks to Rafram: http://rafram.com/ Subscribe for more videos► http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe T-shirts for sale here► https://migrationology.com/store/ There are few cities in the world that can compare to Jerusalem in terms of ancient history and religious significance. It’s one of the most fascinating cities in the world, and it’s a city that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life. Finally, along with my friend David (https://www.instagram.com/the.hungry.tourist/) and Rafram, we explored Jerusalem to discover the food treasures the city has to offer - and let me tell you, you’ll find some incredibly delicious food in Jerusalem! We started off the Jerusalem food tour by first walking around East Jerusalem and starting with the best plate of hummus I’ve ever had. We then toured around Old Jerusalem, and enjoyed some incredible Palestinian food kebabs cooked by an incredible man who cooked with serious love and passion. Another highlight in Jerusalem was the mutabak, a thin pastry stuffed with cheese and baked. After eating our way through Old Jerusalem, we then headed into West Jerusalem and went to lunch at an Israeli Jewish restaurant serving a mix of amazing dishes. The food was home-cooked in style, and absolutely sensation. A few more snacks and sightseeing throughout the afternoon, and that brought us all the way to dinner where David had made reservations to eat at one of the hottest restaurants in Jerusalem, Machneyuda Restaurant. It was quite an experience, and an amazing meal and lively atmosphere to wrap up this ultimate Jerusalem food tour. Here’s all the food and places included in this Palestinian food and Israeli food tour of Jerusalem: Hummus Acramawi Price - 20 ILS ($5.57) per plate Almond juice - 3.90 ILS ($1.09) Al-shuala Grill Restaurant Shawarma - 26 ILS ($7.26) Al Baghdadi Kabab Palestinian kebabs Total price - 100 ILS ($27.89) Zalatimo Sweets Mutabak Price - 30 ILS ($8.37) each Peaches - 10 for 1 kg Plums - 10 for 1 kg Fruit - 10 ILS ($2.76) per kg. Mahane Yehuda Market Azura Restaurant Total price - 400 ILS ($111.55) Western Wall (Wailing Wall) Western Wall Tunnel Price - 35 ILS ($9.76) per person Dome of the Rock Mount of Olives Machneyuda Restaurant Total price - 700 ILS ($195.21) It was a lot of food in a single day, but it was one of the greatest food and learning days that I’ve ever had in my life. The generosity of the people we connected with, paired with the food, was truly a memorable experience in Jerusalem. Thank you again to David (https://www.instagram.com/the.hungry.tourist/) and Rafram for showing me some of the best food in Jerusalem! - MUSIC in This Video: Souls of Time, Arabian Feast - https://goo.gl/HwVjdo CAMERA GEAR used to make this video (these are affiliate links): GH5: http://amzn.to/2sV0XQO Main lens: http://amzn.to/2szLZNf 2nd lens: http://amzn.to/2mcEGau Microphone: http://amzn.to/2rBKD3z Tripod: http://amzn.to/2rBFkkI I would love to connect with you! Cooking Carp with Luke Pearce, DPI Fisheries

What if Australians started eating carp? The fish is extensively farmed in Europe, Asia and the Middle East for food, and is one of the most eaten fish internationally. In 2012 the then Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (now Local Land Services) produced a carp recipe book following a carp cooking competition that selected 30 of the top dishes to be featured. This cookbook is freely available and you can download it with the compliments of all of us keen to get people eating carp. Download the cookbook here: http://riversofcarbon.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/carp-recipe-ebook-A5.pdf To help you even more, we have produced this video with our resident carp chef, Luke Pearce from DPI Fisheries. Please share your carp recipes with us, maybe we can get a second volume of carp recipes out into the community for all to enjoy!

Homemade Oven-Cooked Cebu Lechon Belly (w/ Eng Subtitle) | ChubbyChiniCatt

My husband and I decided to cook our own Cebu Lechon Belly for New year 2017. It is a Filipino-style Porchetta, with stuffing of garlic, onion and lemongrass. NOTES: we preheated the oven at high setting. our oven only has High and Low setting and heat source is only on the bottom. we cooked for 1.5 hrs in Low, 1-1.5 hrs in medium and then set it to High on the last hour to melt the fats and crisp the skin. We also refilled the baking trays on the bottom as needed. Thanks! Culinary delights on the menu in the Philippines - life

Culinary delights on the menu in the Philippines - life

The Philippines not only offers white beaches and a turquoise sea -- the home-grown cuisine... euronews, the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe for your daily dose of international news, curated and explained:http://eurone.ws/10ZCK4a Euronews is available in 13 other languages: http://eurone.ws/17moBCU http://www.euronews.com/2013/11/05/culinary-delights-on-the-menu-in-the-philippines The Philippines not only offers white beaches and a turquoise sea -- the home-grown cuisine seduces visitors as well. Adobo, Lechon and Pancit are typical dishes and reflect the cultural diversity of the country. In this edition of Philippine Life we'll take you on a culinary journey through the world of Filipino cuisine. All eyes are on one of the most famous chefs of the country, Gene Gonzalez. He teaches his students first hand the secrets of the country's finest cuisine. "Filipino cuisine speaks of the flavours of the islands. We have 7000 plus islands, it's an archipelago and we have distinct dishes in every island. Our cuisine is basically a very natural cuisine. We want to present ingredients in their most pristine state," he explains.  Students come from far and wide for a chance to become ambassadors for the country's famous dishes. Over 1500 have graduated since Gonzalez set up the Centre for Asian Culinary Studies in Manila 13 years ago. Becoming a chef is one of the most popular professions in the Philippines right now. "I grew up with a big family who really love to cook and they have their own special dishes. So as a kid they would want us to watch them cook their dishes whenever we had celebrations like birthdays. So it's a big thing for a family," says Jolly Espina, one of the students. Jr Roiyol another student adds, "It teaches us a lot of things. Simple techniques that you wouldn't really just learn by cooking at home and more importantly I guess, the explanation of why you do such combinations and flavours." On today's menu: the most popular fish of the archipelago Lapu-Lapu. Gene R. Gonzalez who is the President of the Centre for Asian Culinary Studies showed how to prepare Lapu Lapu. "This is a coral snapper, what we call Lapu Lapu. What you want to do is fill the cavity with some aromatics. Ginger, lemongrass, we put some tomatoes, some onions, we mix that all together and what we want to do is to stuff this fish with the aromatics that we have. We can wrap it now in a banana leaf which will give it a very herbal aroma. So this fish is ready for grilling." Philippine cuisine is a unique melting pot of cultures -- with Spanish, Malay, Chinese, Japanese and American influences all contributing to the colourful cuisine that has evolved over the centuries. The fresh produce is sold in so-called wet markets, because the floors are wet from washing the food. Like most Filipinos, Gonzalo Misa gets to the market early in the morning. On his shopping list are the ingredients for the national dish: adobo, which can be cooked with a variety of ingredients. Mostly it's prepared with chicken, beef, pork or fish then cooked with garlic, salt and pepper in a vinegar and soy sauce. "We love to eat. First let me tell you, we eat about five times a day. You know for Filipinos eating is a social thing. Many of us don't like to eat alone," he explains. To get to the heart of Filipino cuisine we travel to the province of Pampanga, 90 kilometres north of the capital, known as the country's culinary centre. It is also home to one of the most well-known chefs in the country: Claude Tayag. He is not only a master in the kitchen but also an accomplished artist and writer. In his house Bale Dutung - which means house of wood - he serves up local authentic delicacies like Sisig, an appetizer made of chopped pig's cheeks, head and ears. So what is it that makes the food here stand out from the rest of the country? "In general I would say it's the taste bud that a Pampangos (a local person) has. He is used to having rich food. If the recipe asks for a tablespoon of butter he would put two. Something like that. You always ask yourself something like, "how can I improve that dish?" Filipino cuisine is about a balancing act between the sweet, sour, salty, bitter, all of that combined." From heavenly feasts to another kind of paradise: in the next edition of Philippine Life we'll be travelling to Palawan. The island on the shores of the Sulu Sea is considered one of the most beautiful here. We'll discover the treasures of its rich biodiversity as well as a mystical underground river. In this exclusive video Chef Gene Gonzalez demonstrates his recipe of the Philippine national dish Adobo.
